Hi Sharon, I remember you saying in one of your articles that you had gone to
work for one of your clients and you were glad, because when you were
self-employed, you had no vacation time or sick time or pension unless you
provided it for yourself. You understand what these benefits mean to a person
and their family.
Mayor Miller is well-to-do and apparently lacks this understanding. I like to
think that, if it can be put in terms to which she can relate, she would change
her position and quit eroding morale and disheartening the many loyal,
hard-working employees of this city.
I once asked you to come to the D.P.P.U. and offer your words of wisdom, which
you graciously did. I am asking for your advice and wisdom once again.
The Mayor is on the verge of alienating everyone who works for this city, many
of whom are voters, as are their families and friends. They see the Mayor more
concerned about keeping free lunches and having a commission give her more power
and all council members a pay raise, all on the backs of the employees, and
changing from the "people's" mayor to courting big business.
For goodness sake, she kissed Tom Dunning on T.V.!!!
When I hired on to the Dallas Police Department, it was because I did not want
to be a Garland or Plano or Mesquite, etc. officer, I wanted to be a Dallas
Police Officer. DPD was the BEST!!! I hesitate to say where I work now because
of embarrassment.
Leadership is best when it is by example. You take care of your troops and they
will take care of you. How can we get her to understand this????
