OPEN LETTER TO MR. RON KIRK

October 23, 2002

Mr. Ron Kirk
Candidate for U.S. Senate
P.O. Box 720160
Dallas, Texas 75372

Dear Mr. Kirk:

Many members of our council, including myself, are requesting that you respond in writing to the questions listed below by October 31, 2002. These questions are pertinent since you seek support of the Hispanic community as you campaign to represent the citizens of Texas as our next Senator. The questions are:

While you were Mayor:

(1.) Mr. Kirk, you once told a well known Hispanic community leader you would not get involved in the racial problems Hispanics were then having with the African-American community in our local school district. In fact, you ridiculed this (Rafael Rodriguez 214-228-6778) individual by stating to him that he was but one vote of probably 8 others he received from the Hispanic community while he ran for Mayor so why should he get involved. With this kind of respect showed to the Hispanic community is it a surprise to anyone why the "DREAM TEAM" is prefaced by the words "SO-CALLED")?

(2.) Mr. Kirk, why did you not disclose to Dallas voters that your wife held $500,000 worth of stock options in a company owned by Tom Hicks while you were promoting the arena where he would operate another one of his businesses, a hockey team?

(3.) Mr. Kirk, After 2 different men testified in a federal criminal court case that they paid bribes to former city councilman Al Lipscomb in exchange for his favorable vote, why did you testify on his behalf when his actions caused great harm to the Northwest Dallas community?

(4.) Mr. Kirk, why did you discourage an investigation to determine what "high ranking" police officer assisted former city councilman Al Lipscomb by stopping enforcement of city laws in sexually oriented businesses?

(5.) Mr. Kirk, why are you refusing to appear on "Meet the Press" with host Tim Russert? There are many people in the military that vote by mail and the only time they would be able see a debate between you and Texas Attorney General John Cornyn would be on a live national telecast. Would you be willing to do a live debate on national television?

(6.) Mr. Kirk, a majority of the Hispanic community feels they have been were under-served and under-represented while you were Mayor.  How can you claim you have represented the concerns of the entire citizens of Dallas?

General:

(7.) Mr. Kirk, In order to avoid any potential conflict or appearance of conflict, will you make public full detailed disclosure on your corporate contributions/earnings to your own personal and family finances, fully release your detailed income tax returns to match the 8 years of income tax returns your opponent released and a complete list of former clients while you worked as a lobbyist along with how much you were paid? The people of Texas can make their own judgment as to whether you have been objective in addressing their needs.

Respectively submitted,

Jesse Diaz
President
Dallas LULAC Council 4496

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
