09/30/02  There's still an Election Going On.

We have been busy here in Dallas.  We've got Charter Review Commission meetings all over town to determine if we should change our form of local government, again.  And you know how great it's been every time we changed things in the past.  Our city council has been trying to balance a budget which started with a $95 million shortfall.  And you know who is to blame for that. Citizen D:
Will the Evil Wizard fool enough voters again?  Not if he has to have MY vote he won't!
Once again, you are right!  I hate it when you are right about stuff like this because it means that we, the regular folks, ALL suffer.  I really do not think that Dallas will get any better soon.  Our "Day of Reckoning" has arrived and it will be a dark and long one.
By the way, where the heck was Ed Oakley today at the vote on the budget?  My bet is that he will now say. "Well, don't blame me, I wasn't there ...".  What do you want to bet?
Anyway, you remain the only real source of the truth about what is really going on here at City Hall.  While sad, I am VERY GRATEFUL you are there.
Thanks!

And how did we get in this mess?

Not all of the once free
population fell under the Wizard's spell.  Those he could not control were called Bad Dealers.  Sometimes they were called Aginners and Naysayers.  Sometimes they were called much worse.

The Bad Dealers fought a great battle for the souls of the once free population, but the Robber Barons spent enough of their ill gotten gains to give the wizard the power he would need to hold his spell just long enough to prevail in that battle.  The Robber Barons were happy with the results but concerned that some Bad Dealers remained at large, particularly Three Witches called Blumer, Boyd and Miller.  Blumer was a council witch who could vote on population matters, much to the Wizard's chagrin.  Miller had a magic pen and a strong way with words to expose wrong doing.  Boyd had the power to agitate and annoy the Wizard and his Large White Shadow.

When the Robber Barons realized the war was not over, one quickly lost faith in the Evil Wizard and his Large White Shadow and cashed out from the fray through some sorcery skills of his own.

The Three Witches conjured up potions so the once free population could again see the true state of the Emerald City.  The Robber Barons, as well as their support group called "Our Downtown Betters" (the ODB), took notice of the Three Witches and were not pleased, nor was the Evil Wizard and his Large White Shadow.  Some of the spell bound population appeared to be wakening from their stupor, which greatly concerned the Robber Barons and the ODB.

The Wizard and his Large White Shadow immediately cast a second spell called The Trinity Bond-doogle to distract the population from the potions of the Three Witches.  The Wizard caused mail boxes to be filled with brochures promising lakes and great roadways would rise out of a polluted river.  Enough of the once free population were again taken in by the Wizard's magic, but the Three Witches would not surrender.

Witch Miller abandoned her magic pen to join Witch Blumer on the council to thwart the Evil Wizard at his home base.  Witch Boyd activated a web site where information could be accessed by those who were resisting the Wizard's spell.  Having to maintain two spells simultaneously was straining the Wizard's power..

Soon, many of the population were questioning the wisdom of their taxes going to subsidize two billionaires, and others were resisting the idea of moving the Trinity River into two concrete troughs that would wipe out an ancient forest.  Others were jolted out of their stupors when they hit gigantic pits in the streets of the Emerald City, pits called "pot holes".  Some woke up when they were victimized by criminals and there were too few  white knights called "police officers" to capture the bad guys.

The Robber Barons and the 0DB knew the Three Witches had created dissention among the once free population, and that each person freed from the Wizard's spell might be spreading the truth.

Actually, the Wizard only had one spell -- call an election, and he had already used it twice.  His Large White Shadow advised him to use it again on something so outlandish that the Three Witches would be caught off guard.  So, the Wizard went back to his black bag and pulled out a third election to chase after an Olympic Dream.

The population was supposed to be so excited by the Olympic Dream that they would forget about the true state of the Emerald City, the potholes, the crime rate and anything the Three Witches might have to say.  This time, the Wizard stretched his power too far, and his third spell was inadequate to overcome the Three Witches' wake-up potion.

The Wizard was about to be exposed as a naked fraud, and he knew the population would be blaming him for the true state of the Emerald City.  It was time to take his show on the road, and thus began the Wizard's quest for the Senate.

The Evil Wizard is a very vain man.  He thought he had merely to anoint a successor assistant to the Robber Barons and the ODB and the population would accept his heir apparent, but he discounted the work of the Three Witches.   Witch Blumer rallied her North Dallas coven and Witch Boyd organized teams of Bad Dealers to man telephones to help Witch Miller take the city back from the Robber Barons and the ODB.

Dallas voters are awake today.  Dallas taxpayers are not only awake, but they are really mad.  The Wizard aka Ron Kirk is not spending a lot of time in Dallas on his Senate quest -- not because he is sure of his base here.  He's on the road because he knows Dallas voters are on to him and will not fall under his spell again.

We do not want Ron Kirk to do to the country what he did to our city.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
