| | 05/23/02 About The
White Rocker Scoop
Just for accuracy purposes, everyone including Board Members and media got the
TAAS results at the same time. Dr. Moses did a press conference. I
was there. The DMN just chose to run the story later. I am sure other
issues got in front of the story.
On another aspect of the Edison schools...Dr. Moses and the Board will review
their performance. If it is unsatisfactory, they will be out. For
me, they (Edison) have had some great successes (teacher training and parent
involvement) and some great disappointments (low performing ratings at some
schools). At two of those schools, Medrano and Hernandez, no one can get
it right. They were on and off the "low list" when the district
managed them and now back and forth with Edison. Medrano and Hernandez
need a closer look no matter what.
The process is going to work. Give them a try (Edison). If it works,
great. If not, goodbye. It is much cleaner than the lawsuit and its
cost(150,000+) which Lois Parrott and others filed about two years ago.
The suit bordered on frivolous (my opinion). The plaintiffs lost at every turn
and a judge determined that DISD was entitled to recover legal fees. That
remains to be settled.

Roxan Staff is
a School Board Trustee and is referencing DISD
& EDISON. She's right that things at DISD are much improved with
Dr. Moses on board and we should allow the Board and Dr. M to fix things, but
the Edison deal is still a question. sb | |
