03/21/02 Cadillac Heights Buy-Out
"If you plan to vote for Ron Kirk in the Democrat's
Senate runoff knowing his part in this Evil Deal, please stop reading
DallasArena.com. If you would vote for Ron Kirk for anything, you cannot
possibly care about good government or honesty or fair play, so you are wasting
your time on this web site".
So what does this mean? I'm
not clear about your point -- KIDDING!
Just so you know, I voted in the Democrat Primary so I could vote against Kirk!
I'll be doing the same in the runoff.
Why hasn't the City Council and the Corps figured out that it would be hundreds
of millions of dollars cheaper to Buy Out than to build a levee. Then
they could use those funds (which we really do NOT HAVE ANYWAY!) for some
worthwhile projects.
Even at $100,000 per house, we come out A LOT cheaper. Maybe Laura can get
RIGHT THINKING corporations to band together and buy out the homes individually,
then donate them as Park Land. If it becomes designated park land, (public
or PRIVATE -- like in the Nature Conservancy or Trust for Public Land) it can
never be developed for anything else. You could get 100 of Belo's
competitors together to foil their evil plan and then they become local heroes
for what they might have spent in advertising alone and do a good public
service.
The "Committee of 100" approach (corporate adopt -- i.e. BUY -- a
house in Cadillac Heights) has already been pitched to the Dallas Plan on a
number of occasions and has never made it to the flip chart or out of the room.
Imagine that!
If the mayor can get right thinking businesses to bail out our swimming pools
for one summer, maybe she can see the sense of bailing out the entire city
forever and leaving a legacy that will outlast any arenas and cost the taxpayers
NOTHING! Now, imagine that.
Take care and keep up the good work!
