02/22/02 Belo's
Still Whining
Just read the Editorial in the "Dunning Managed News" today.
You know, they're still whining about how Laura Miller needs to be able to work
with the city council, you know the same old story from the election about how
she's "difficult" and "can't get along" etc., etc.
I think it's a positive that she can't get along with those folks on the
council, because that's how Dallas has gotten into such a mess, everyone just
"going along with the program" and not questioning or challenging the
status quo.
I hope the Mayor keeps being "difficult", as that's what's needed down
there to shake those people up!
Another thing that irked me about the Editorial, was their thumbs down on a pay
raise for police and fire fighters (the right thing to do, nevertheless),
claiming it would be very hard to find the money for that.
Who's being "difficult" now? I mean if a major newspaper comes out and
tries to torpedo something positive right off the bat, how does that help
matters any?
Maybe the Mayor can find the money by eliminating huge tax breaks to big
developers, but in the same breath, the DMN warns her not to mess around with
any big projects already approved or in the works. Kind of obvious
who the DMN is pulling for here, but we all knew that!
You know, once you learn to read between the DMN lines, they are really quite
transparent.
