02/11/02  Reader's responses to DMN

John King:

Laura Miller connects with people

Bold, bright and beautiful Laura Miller will be the next mayor of Dallas. The metroplex will benefit if Laura Miller becomes mayor of Dallas. When Laura Miller speaks "she connects to people."

North Central Texans view Dallas as its pivotal center. Laura Miller has a razor-sharp acumen of city government. Laura Miller's plainspoken communication will ensure that residents will understand complex city problems. Laura Miller's veracity is so refreshing because most elected officials speak in "politically correct" sound bites.

This is the 21st century and the torch has been passed to a new generation of voters. Dallas can't stand still. Dallas voters must elect a fearless leader with a backbone, Laura Miller!

Stan Aten:  The headline in the Dunning Morning News should read "Hold on to your wallets", the new crusade is to do something about downtown Dallas and a triple AAA bond rating be damned.
Ken Goldstein:  I still think that the "Boondocks" strip belongs in the Classified section instead of on or near the comics pages.  It is as one-sidedly biased, overtly prejudiced, and humorless as the News' articles and editorials on the Dallas mayoral race.

The News' blatant flag-waving for Mr. Dunning has long since passed the point of legitimate endorsement and has now turned into outright electioneering.  This tabloid mentality is a sorry come-down for what I used to regard as one of the fairest -- and finest -- dailies in the country.
Cassie Pierce:  "Laura Miller Backer Lodges Complaint Against Dunning" was absolutely troubling.  First of all, Tom Dunning is blaming Laura Miller for attacking him.  This is wrong.

It was a citizen named Allen Gwinn who filed the complaint.  So, is Tom Dunning going to start blaming Laura Miller of creating a diversion every time a citizen votes for her?

And James Fantroy?  He made a public admission of wrongdoing and then said he didn't care if he gets into trouble!  Isn't that illegal?  Why doesn't someone on the city council stand up and publicly denounce this kind of wrongdoing?

What message is the council sending to the public?  This is the type of "leadership" that has got Dallas citizens ready to fight for a change.  I think I will file a complaint against Fantroy.
I just hope Tom Dunning doesn't then turn around and blame Miller for attacking him.

Polly Hill:

Re.  Tatum article Wednesday:

We know downtown is in trouble when the suggestion is to turn Downtown into an OUTLET MALL, rather than the heart of offices for major corporations and commerce.

For years (under the likes of Dunning), downtown has been allowed to disintegrate into the dust.  And you wonder why we drive to Allen for premium shopping????

Has anyone ever wondered why it is possible to drive to Fort Worth, park in free downtown lots, take underground rail to downtown shopping, visit world class museums, etc. ?????

Has anyone ever wondered if this happened over night, or by years of planning and caring for resident's needs?  No wonder we drive to Allen.

Dallas is not a people friendly downtown.  That is why we drive to Allen, Plano, Sherman, Gainesville and Fort Worth.

Now------get over it Tatum.   It will take years (20 yrs.-- probably) to ever resurrect downtown Dallas from the dust.

That is why we need new blood.  If it is the wrong blood, well hell, it can't be worse than the mess we now have, and we will vote it out.

Polly

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
