The signatories to this endorsement letter for Laura Miller have been fighting to save the Trinity and save the residents of Cadillac Heights.

January 10, 2002

We are asking you to vote for Laura Miller for Mayor of Dallas. We have talked personally with all the mayoral candidates about the Trinity Project and Cadillac Heights. We feel Ms. Miller would do the most good for the residents of Cadillac Heights, for cleaner air, and for the environment. She has also said that she wants to "return City Hall to the people" and to represent all of the people.

Both as a City Council member and as a mayoral candidate, Ms. Miller has repeatedly stated that she supports a voluntary buyout for Cadillac Heights. It is an injustice to keep residents in a neighborhood that is highly polluted and floods, she has said.

Ms. Miller has also repeatedly said that she "would not move forward with the Trinity Project just to move forward," and that to do so "would be a mistake." Moving forward before "making sure that all the right building blocks are in place" would end in a result that no one is happy with.

We are especially concerned about Mr. Dunning?s responses to our questions about the Trinity River and Cadillac Heights. When directly asked, he said, "We have already voted and it is time to move on." Further, he would only support a buyout in Cadillac Heights "if the levees make the flooding worse." Mr. Garcia also supports "moving forward" and was unclear about Cadillac Heights. Mr. Crenshaw supports a voluntary buyout for Cadillac Heights.

We agree with Ms. Miller that it is a mistake to "move forward just to move forward"; that the "right building blocks are not in place"; and that it is a terrible injustice to leave residents to suffer in Cadillac Heights, which floods and is terribly polluted.

Please join us in voting for Laura Miller! We need a strong leader that is responsive to our concerns, and cares about all the people, not just a privileged few.

As Ms. Miller has said, this is a watershed election for Dallas and the Trinity River. Let?s get out the vote and VOTE FOR LAURA MILLER! Tell your friends and neighbors to go vote for Laura Miller.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
