12/11/03 Who works for who?
Jim Schutze is to be
commended for his attempt to obtain a copy of the
audit/report conducted by the DEA described in his
Fake Justice.
It would behoove community based organizations to equally apply
pressure to the City of Dallas and also file Public Information Act demands to
obtain a copy of the audit/report completed by the federal Drug Enforcement
Administration related to Dallas police
procedures relevant to the fake drugs.
At a minimum, I expect two organizations will file such a demand shortly. Dallas citizens need to take ownership and responsibility to these type of situations. Reading Mr. Schutze's article. you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize some serious hoodwinking is going on here:
"An active
effort was already under way to conceal portions of the report from the city
council. I can't tell you how I know that. But I challenge Chief Hampton or
the city attorney to deny it."
Seriously, If the citizens
of the City of Dallas are going to expect a fundamental reform of police
governance as a result of the work of the City of Dallas fake drug
investigation the public will have to have the
cojones
to dive right into this issue and not hesitate to blink. Those
public servants work for us, paid for by our tax dollars, and accountable to
you the taxpayer. This is so simple it sounds stupid.
