12/08/03  Politics, during the Holidays?

While it is still too early for politics, the recent political announcement that Texas State Rep. Steve Wolens for District 103 will not seek re-election has already brought out grapevine information of two possible candidates who may show an interest to replace Rep. Wolens.

Whoever replaces Steve Wolens will have to step into some big shoes, my friends.  His ability to build coalitions that benefited our state and his district is recognized by many in the media and general public. Spinzone and another credible pseudo partner will soon pass on updates along with candidate present and past history (some good & some bad) notations that will take you to the primaries and on to the general elections next fall.

The two possible candidates mentioned above are DISD Trustee Rafael Anchia and former State Rep. Domingo Garcia, who are rumored to have already expressed an interest in running for the Dist 103 seat.  Reportedly, Mr. Anchia has already hit the ground runningHe also lives in District 103.

In contrast, Mr. Garcia is not a resident of District 103.  Mr. Garcia is a former state representative and former Dallas City Councilman.

There may be other individuals who may show an interest in this position, but both of these individuals will undoubtedly generate lots of attention if their respective candidacies become reality.

Mr. Anchia has already received support from lifelong Dallas resident and local LULAC leader Jesse Diaz.  On the other side, Mr. Garcia may have picked up the support of DISD Trustee Joe May.

Developing story.......

There may be a vote on redistricting at DISD within the next few weeks.  If things turn out the way they appear to be headed, look for possible candidacies of community leaders Ramiro Lopez and Jesse Diaz to fill what may be newly created minority opportunity districts.  I am sure many more individuals may also place their name in the hat for these districts.

Candidate filing deadlines will be just after the end of this year. There will be more candidacies to talk about without doubt.

Editor's comments:   There is talk of Bob Stimson running for this seat.  He can't expect any support in NW Dallas.  We haven't forgotten his plans to designate the area as the city's red light district.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
