From: Jesse Diaz,
President, Dallas LULAC Council 4496 Date: November 25, 2003
Subject: Re: Dallas Police Department?s (DPD) Fake Drug Trial Outcome
Message:
Dallas LULAC Council 4496 calls upon Dallas County District Attorney Bill Hill and DPD Interim Chief Randy Hampton to immediately begin the process of conducting an outside, independent investigation into the DPD fake drug scandal.
In addition, we urge Dallas City Manager Ted Benavides and Dallas Mayor Laura Miller to do anything within their respective authority to see that this investigation be conducted in a manner that will identify where policy went awry, and hold accountable all who contributed to this catastrophe.
To date, at least two dozen innocent people have been wrongfully arrested in the DPD Drug Scandal. In addition, more than 80 narcotic cases have been dismissed because of concerns over involvement of DPD sponsored informants and DPD staff.
The fact that former Dallas police detective Mark Delapaz was found not guilty on all six counts in his federal criminal trial related to the DPD fake-drug scandal leaves many questions and concerns unanswered that weigh heavy on Dallas? citizens. The citizens and taxpayers of the City of Dallas deserve better. The public?s confidence level towards the DPD?s ability to handle present and future drug arrests is at an all time low and need to be addressed immediately. |
