08/30/03  Tears, Lies and Rumors

Every day since Tuesday when the City Manager fired the Chief of Police, there has been new information that makes the decision to fire Bolton look like it was forced on Benavides.  Not by Laura Miller.  It was forced on Benavides by Bolton.

Do you think for one minute that Ted Benavides wanted to bring all this on himself?

Do you think for one minute that Ted Benavides did not know all this would happen?

If you missed Terrell Bolton's tearful performance tonight, you missed a performance right up there with all those near-death moments Old Al "experienced" during his trial, right up to being wheeled out on a stretcher.  Old Al sure looks like a healthy old crook now.

Not only is Bolton saying the CM is lying about the resignation offer, but that he claims he was only trying to follow the City Charter by not meeting with the Mayor.  As Benavides told the press conference, he had his secretary type up a letter of resignation for Bolton.  That pretty much covers Benavides.

The business of accountability meetings between the City Manager, the Chief of Police, the Mayor and other council members being forbidden by the City Charter is ludicrous.  The Mayor was elected by the entire city.  She has a right to know what the new procedures are in place and future plans to get a handle on our crime rate.  Seeking information is not micro-managing.  The Mayor never said she had ideas about solving our crime problems.

Can you imagine Bolton refusing to have weekly meetings with Ron Kirk?  Either Bolton doesn't respect Miller because she is White, or he doesn't respect her because she's a woman and married to her first husband, and faithful to her first husband.

Multi-married Bolton apparently has some domestic relation issues going on simultaneously with his employment problems.  Anyone seen Mrs. Bolton standing by her man?

I have edited Housewives Extraordinares because I had misspoke about Joyce Brown, who had the courtesy to call and correct me.  Ms. Brown was not pardoned by the Governor, her conviction was OVERTURNED and she was found innocent and her record was expunged.  Unlike Al Lipscomb, SHE NEVER CONFESSED, she NEVER DENIED HER INNOCENCE.  She is not a felon.

The attached opinions from various DallasArena.com contributors cover our current soap opera from many different angles.  Some want to talk about the validity of the firing.  Some want to talk about the hypocrisy of African-Americans calling others racists while they carry signs calling Ted Benavides a "wet back".

This is a pivotal moment in our city.  Bolton's mob barely had 40 participants.  Since when are 40 people yelling with bullhorns a significant event?  As Stan Aten says:

African-American community only makes up 20% of the population of Dallas.  They do not vote in high numbers and don't have much economic power.   With current trends in demographics, their high point as far as political power has already come and gone.   Unless they learn to get along with others, their power will dwindle in the future.

There is no monolithic Black community anymore.  African-Americans who live in North Dallas have no more in common with those marchers than does Laura Miller.  They are busy living their lives and raising their families and that is a concept just lost on Darren Reagan and his thugs, except one of them gets it:

Protesters back Bolton, say Miller recall needed
09:08 PM CDT on Friday, August 29, 2003
By JASON TRAHAN / The Dallas Morning News
. . .  About 50 people, mostly blacks, congregated in Ferris Plaza about 11 a.m. and called for a boycott of all Belo-owned media, including The Dallas Morning News and WFAA-TV (Channel 8). Both organizations have reported numerous missteps by the former chief, whom the city manager abruptly fired Tuesday.
. . .  Several protesters held signs that used a racial slur in reference to Mr. Benavides, who is Hispanic.
. . . Protester Charles Holmes said he was disappointed by Friday's turnout.
?This is a shame,? he said. ?There should be busloads of people out here. The black mentality is, ?As long as you don?t scratch my Mercedes, it?s OK.??

It would take more than 72,000 signatures ? about 15 percent of the nearly half million eligible voters in Dallas ? to trigger a recall election, said Brooks Love, elections manager for the city of Dallas. . . .

Holmes gets it -- and he doesn't like it!

You want to know what Bolton's tears were all about?  He got bad legal advice from Bob Hinton.  He thought his getting fired was going to make him a millionaire like those smart demoted commanders who settled.  He is out in the cold and claims he can't get a job now a a dog catcher.  He's in the doghouse at home.  Can't get much worse for Terrell Bolton.

Funny thing, I don't remember any of those demoted commanders weeping over the way he shafted them FOR NO GOOD REASON.  They just went out and got jobs as Chief of Police in other cities, and those suburban cities have been benefited from the expertise and know-how paid for by Dallas taxpayers.

As more stuff comes out on Bolton, John Wiley Price and others might want to start stepping away from the "community's love child" as Leo Chaney calls Bolton.

Even Bolton's mentor, Charles Daniels, is now calling Bolton a liar, and Daniels is African-American.   Who's Price to believe now?

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
