08/28/03  Al Lipscomb & Police Review Board

LETTER TO MAYOR & COUNCIL:

Dear Honorable Mayor and Council Members:

I write this e-mail with a saddened heart over the appointment of Al Lipscomb to the Police Review Board.

I applaud those of you who voted against Lipscomb?s appointment.

I admonish those of you who voted for Lipscomb?s appointment.

Lipscomb is a self-confessed and convicted bribe-taker.  My understanding is Lipscomb not only is a bribe-taker, but also was a pimp and drug dealer who served time in the California jail.  He has been in trouble with law enforcement for decades.

I question  the judgment of each of you who voted for this criminal.  Why don?t you all just go over to Lew Sterrett and present a sign up sheet to the criminals and appoint them to boards?

This only reinforces my opinion of the mental capacity of some of you on the city council.  Anyone in their right mind would not disgrace our city by putting a convict on any board.   I am grateful those of  of  you who voted for Lipscomb do not work for my company.

Mr. Fantroy, i
f you believe Lipscomb is such an upstanding citizen why don?t you resign your position on the city council and let Lipscomb fill it?

I can only hope that with our next council election some of  Al Lipscomb supporters will no longer be sitting around the horseshoe.  I do not think for one minute some of you represent you constituents.

Steve Salazar is my city council representative.  I know for certain my community does not support his voting for Al Lipscomb.  I have tried since Friday to contact either Mr. Salazar or his assistant and asked for return phone calls.  I am still waiting for my phone to ring.

I am really tired of  some of you hiding behind the race card when you do not get your way.  This is only a diversionary tactic.  I could care less about the color of a person?s skin as long as they have no criminal history in their background when occupying an elected position or appointed position.

If my race was black, I would be ashamed of a person like Al Lipscomb.  I would not make excuses for him or give him another chance to repeat the same behavior he has done for decades.  As the old saying goes, ?You cannot change the spots of a leopard?.

I recommend all elected and appointed positions adhere to a criminal and credit background check before either position can be occupied.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
