08/25/03  Al Lipscomb Should Surprise Us and Do the Right Thing!

My opposition to Al Lipscomb on the Police Review Board is not about race!  It is about the individual and who he is and what he has done.

Shame on Councilman Fantroy for creating this division in the Dallas community.  As Mary Lou Montes Zijderveld says, there are other ways for Al to contribute to his community and still  be in some form of a leadership position.  To use the Police Review Board this way will be a step backward for all of Dallas.

If you have any influence, please encourage him to withdraw his name for consideration.  That would drop such a bombshell he would  get far more TV, radio and newspaper coverage than he could expect from being confirmed.  It would show he can be a bigger person than many of us believe he is capable of being.  

Many of us who oppose his confirmation will give him due credit and support for moving on to some activity that would probably be a much more positive contribution to his supporters and community.  

I would gladly accept an offer to meet with Al Lipscomb for a conversation between two old men!  

I know I would come out of such a a meeting a much more informed person.
