06/17/03 Who needs Ethics
without Voters?
Great content regarding the Ethics
Bill and the problem with Dallas politics. However, at the end of the day
nothing is going to change until the apathy of registered voters can be
overcome. If it became a requirement to pass a comprehensive written
exam to earn the right to vote, perhaps people might start to appreciate it and
use their right to vote.
Maybe we should stop having elections in Dallas all together. They're very
expensive. Let's just let the council make all decisions for the
citizenry. Most decisions of consequence are made in the corporate boardrooms
anyway. It's just a matter of manipulating the system to accomplish their
goals.
An we should stop complaining about robber barons, millionaires and billionaires
getting their way. Of course, they do, since no one really cares to
go vote. People are sheeple, and that's the way 'they' like it.
If we must continue the voting process, let's treat it like the lottery.
Until we hit a magic number, the game continues. I.e., until 25 - 50 % of
registered voters have cast their ballot, the election continues. You
never know. Citizens might become interested as they wait to see if enough
people turn out to make the election count.
How about we just choose our representatives from the pool of registered voters?
We would again save the expense of conducting an election, and possibly end up
with better representation.
Let's start by getting a real police chief for our police department
-- not a skip-promoted politician who needs a handler to make sure he says the
correct thing.
The City Manager got us into our financial difficulties. Time for him to
go, as well. Perhaps. the City Manager should be elected, too.
Depending on what happens with the illegal totally nude bars across from Bachman
Lake, we may also need a new City Attorney.
