06/03/03  Ward Politics

Paul Patterson:

Isn't the term "ward politics" used whenever racial minorities propose or  implement policies or ideas contrary to whites? I realize "ward politics" got its origins in Chicago back in Richard Dailey's corrupt reign as mayor in the 1970's.

Recently, this term has become a rallying cry for those who despise racial minorities rise to political power and influence.

Sharon Boyd:

Paul -- That's baloney.  I recently used "ward politics" on DallasArena.com in response to what Veletta Lill did to Greenway Parks.  Everyone involved on all sides is White.

Ward politics means no one looks out for the whole city.

Ward politics means a council member can befriend their buddies and stick it to anyone else and no other council member will interfere.

A White councilman told me he opposed Lill's plan for Greenway Parks -- imposing a Conservation District with 42% opposition -- but he would not get involved because he has a big zoning case coming up and he doesn't want anyone "messing" in his district.  A bad zoning case sets a precedent for the entire city.

Lill forced some bad amendments to the Oak Lawn PD on Oak Lawn with over 50% opposition to the changes because 2 of her buddies (Cay Kolb and Lordi Palmer -- who does not even live in Dallas County) told her to do it.

If you wear politically correct blinders, you play into the hands of the bad guys.  If you can't think for yourself, it is a waste of your time to read DallasArena.com.

Just last week, T-Reese took a case under advisement that was one block inside her district and impacted people several blocks inside District 7.  The community had been working with the developer for months and had gotten lots of amenities.

Right now, the property is being used for dumping and other illegal activity.  We are talking about a condo complex being planned for a very distressed area.  The community was excited to have the new construction and lots of new trees and landscaping instead of a trashed covered area.

Because the developer had not "met" w/T-Reese, she took it under advisement for 2 months.  She had refused to attend the community meetings or she would have met with the developers.  This is a shakedown.  T-Reese is Black, but it is still ward politics and it is still wrong.

I am very disappointed in you.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
