05/09/03 Former District 9 Candidate Cannon Flowers

endorses Roxan Staff
Flowers Press Release Flowers Letter to Campaign Supporters
DALLAS, Texas -

Former District 9 city council candidate Cannon Flowers has announced that he is endorsing Roxan Staff in the Dallas City Council run-off election scheduled for May 31, 2003.

"I have had numerous conversations with both Roxan Staff and Gary Griffith.

"Of the two, Ms. Staff has the most progressive views and has learned the value of diversity from her experience on the DISD Board.  She has also received other endorsements that substantiate that fact.  This is very important with the large population of people who live in District 9.

"Ms. Staff also has an excellent working relationship with Mayor Miller.  I personally believe in the vision that the Mayor has for the City -- we must make that vision a reality and we need people on the Council that will support that vision and legacy", said Mr. Flowers

Dear Friends,

First of all, let me thank you again for your support for my City Council run.  Many wonderful people from District 9 came together to spread our message of New Ideas, New Dallas.  And while we did not make the run-off, our voice was heard.  Our message resonated.

Now, two of my opponents find themselves facing a tight runoff on May 31.  After careful consideration, I have decided to support and endorse Roxan Staff.  Today, I am writing to ask you to do the same.

In the months since this campaign began, Roxan and I have become friends.  While we have disagreed on some issues and found common ground on others, I am impressed with her willingness to listen and learn.

I believe Roxan intends to represent the best interests of District 9 and the City of Dallas as a whole.

She is a coalition-builder, and in my view, this makes Roxan the clear choice for District 9.

Further, Roxan has given me her personal assurance that she will work to ensure that District 9's diversity is represented when she makes decisions about appointments to city boards and commissions.  I believe Roxan Staff sincerely intends to represent ALL of District 9.

I hope you will join me in lending Roxan Staff your support at the polls on May 31.  As always, I am available to discuss this endorsement - or any issue in this campaign - with you.  Just call me at 214.320.5550.
>
Again, thank you for your support for me and for Dallas, and please remember to vote for Roxan Staff on May 31.
>
Yours sincerely,

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
