05/05/03 DISD Trustee sends out Racist, Illegal Campaign Mailer

District 2 resident Joe May says only someone who speaks Spanish should represent District 6, but he has always backed John Loza, even when Councilman Loza could not converse with his Spanish constituents.

Disclaimer on May Mailer claims "paid for by Jose Joe May Campaign".  Campaign contributions may not exceed $1,000 per individual, that includes contributions from campaign accounts.  It is not possible to mail to all regular voters in District 6 for less than $950, that's 3700 households.  It is not possible to print over 3,000 mailers for $50.  This mailer cost a minimum of $1,500.  If the printer "donated" the printing, or the graphics artist "donated" the design work, then the mailer was not "paid for by Jose Joe May Campaign".  The proper disclaimer would have been "paid for by Steve Salazar Campaign", and the Jose Joe May Campaign would have been listed on Salazar's financial report as a contributor, the designer and printer would be also be listed as contributors.  This is not rocket science stuff.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
