01/02/03 To Dream the IMPOSSIBLE  Dream ---

Mary PreTend Poss wants to know if she should run for Mayor.  DallasArena.com wants to know if we should now call her Agent Poss.  DallasArena.com also wants to know where Poss thinks she has the votes to beat Mayor Miller.

Going clockwise around the city, let's start with her own District 9 - East Dallas and  Lakewood (she probably prefers Lakewood and East Dallas).  MPT's District 9 went 68% for Mayor Miller.  That was the Mayor's biggest percentage of win in any district outside of her own Oak Cliff District 3.  Before you dismiss that 68% of District 9 voters for Miller, remember who was the most strident and active council member campaigning against Miller.  You got it -- MPT Poss was out there almost every day, holding press conferences, posing for campaign pictures.  That may have cost Tom Dunning a couple of thousand votes.

Going clockwise into Old East Dallas, MPT Poss starts into enemy territory.  That Barking Dog prowls the Greenville Avenue area and will be out there biting butts reminding his neighbors of how MPT Poss always sided with the bars over the interests of the homeowners.  She can't expect to take that area away from Miller.

Then, moving on to Old East Dallas (Munger Place, Junius Heights, Swiss Avenue, etc.).  When the homeowners fought to keep an Albertson's from being plopped down on land zoned residential, MPT was not with them.  When the Swiss Avenue Historic District tried to prevent David Dean from adding on to an historic house in violation of the District rules, MPT was not with them.  The Dean's knew they were buying into an historic district.  Dean's a big time lawyer and former Secretary of State (like That Former Mayor).  She might get a dozen votes in Old East Dallas.

The saddest part of her abuse of East Dallas homeowners is that Poss was mentored by my dear friend, Dorothy Savage.  No one was more passionate about preserving the heritage of Dallas than Dorothy Savage.  Dorothy and her husband, former Mayor Wallace Savage, were the primary movers behind the Swiss Avenue Historic District.  Every time MPT Poss votes against preservation or neighborhood rights, she is betraying Dorothy Savage.  It apparently doesn't bother her at all.

Poss showed her disdain for restoring Downtown when she championed the Palladium Project.  She and some council members defended their support for another $43 Million tax abatement for her buddies Ross Perot, Jr. and Tom Hicks by saying there will be no abatements if there is no development.  That makes it sound harmless, but that's hardly the case.  If you have a potential developer interested in salvaging the Mercantile or some other under-occupied Downtown skyscraper and he knows there is the potential that Palladium can build a whole new downtown, with new infrastructure, better freeway access and pay no taxes on their new stuff --   Well, you see why there's no potential developer for the Mercantile.  That's what Mary Poss did for Downtown.

Then you swing down to Oak Cliff -- Miller Country.  No votes there for MPT Poss.

Then up to Oak Lawn and Turtle Creek -- Miller Country.

Then Bachman-NW Highway.  Poss has been no friend to business and residential leaders who have been trying to rid our community of the sex clubs and rogue bars in our area.  She actually pushed Le Bare out of her district over to Northwest Highway with the full concurrence of our then council representative.  Miller is very popular.

Mitch Rasansky's district may not be as strong for Miller as in the last election over some of her initiatives, but they will not vote for Mary Poss.  They may just stay home.

Lois Finkelman and Sandy Greyson's districts were strong for Miller.

Alan Walne campaigned against Miller, but his district ignored him.

I doubt the African-American council members will stick their necks out for Poss.  Regardless of what Old Al Lipscomb says.

The 5 Black districts might go for Poss over Miller, but that won't mean she wins.  We don't have a Mayor Dunning, do we?  The Hispanic community will support Miller.

Of course, I forgot the Arlington votes that Family Man Part II Mark Davis will deliver for Poss since he is now down on Miller.  Who cares?  It is pretty hypocritical for Mark Davis to make the following statement:

Some of us who bought his Family Man Part I act feel "hosed, bamboozled".   Davis lives in Keller*, pays taxes in Keller* and probably votes in Keller*.  He works in Arlington.  Neither Keller or Arlington are in Dallas County.

Having moved to the "Metroplex" from out of state, Davis picked Tarrant County and cities other than Dallas to buy houses, send his daughter to school and spend his money.  Davis knows nothing about Dallas except what he reads in The Dallas Managed News or the StarTeleGram.

It's typical of Poss to go to some non-Dallas celebrity for a quote.  Poss is really big on metroplex visions and regionalism.  Poss is really big on big ticket items (like That Former Mayor).
Linda Helton:
Wanted to correct your info on where Mark Davis lives.  He recently moved to Keller with wife #3. He does work in Arlington.
I also resent it when he tells Dallas taxpayers how we ought to spend our tax money. (Has  he been hanging out with Lisa LeMaster?)
I listen to him every day and do not politically agree with him on much of anything. I have always thought he was a pretty fair guy though.    His diatribes against Mayor Miller are also driving me crazy.
*Correction made & appreciated.

Eric:
Mark Davis, beholden to  Disney Company (which owns WBAP), feels free to criticize Laura Miller.  She's a "safe" target.  Most people hearing a diatribe against Miller "blow it off" and won't bother to "organize" and swamp the radio station with calls for his ouster.
Did you ever hear Davis criticize "That Former Mayor"?  I didn't.  When Senate Candidate Kirk made his insulting comments about the military and class warfare. Davis didn't mention it.  He wouldn't dare criticize Kirk.  I tried calling Davis' show to comment, and the screener told me, "We're not discussing the issue on-air."
Same was true in May, 2001, when Kirk's church was victimized by a suspicious "hate crime".  Davis was silent on the issue.
Media hypocrisy is sickening.  It's OK to criticize a white mayor, but criticize the black mayor, and there will be organized outcry.  Davis and Disney know this.

The DPA will probably endorse Poss because they are so mad at Miller, but that will be a lukewarm effort.  After all, Poss signed their petition, too, and Poss posed with Miller and the rest of the council in opposition to their referendum.  Poss was Mayor Pro Tem for 2 terms and did not get them a raise.  Poss also helped block any investigations into Bolton's assistance to Al Lipscomb in his bribe deal with Caligula Rizos.

But, hey, it's not like I haven't backed some losers because I was mad at some incumbent.

Rich people like Poss spend all their time talking with each other at various cocktail parties and fundraisers.  They know a dozen or so "minority" leaders who they call up for lunch or endorsements or both.  They don't understand that their "go-to" minority leaders don't live in minority neighborhoods and don't know anybody who does.

Poss needs to forget this  MISSION IMPOSSIBLE  !!

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
