12/21/04 Can we just give it back?
Did you have a relative who would give you a
Christmas gift or a Birthday gift or something that had nothing to do with you,
was not even close to your size and you had to write a thank you note and
perpetuate the problem? Saying thank you for something you don't want only
invites the giver to do something like that to you the next year, or sooner.
It's dangerous to even pretend that Bah! Bah! Blackwood's "gift" to the city to
force us into an election to change our form of local government is a good
thing. Our Mayor would have you believe it's better than nothing, but that
just is not true.
What Bah! Bah! is proposing will actually be harmful,
particularly to city employees and to our ability to hire quality people
when other cities are competing for the same talent. I am not going to
say that every city employee works hard and does a good job, but most do and
could make more money in the private sector. It's really inappropriate
for Our Mayor to be out on the stump bashing our civil servants when she
will be their immediate supervisor if her and Bah! Bah!'s plan is approved
by voters.
I do not believe this thing is going to pass. South Dallas will be
united in opposition, and North Dallas is hardly supportive. With Bill
Blaydes campaigning against it in Lake Highlands and Velletta Lill fighting
it in Oak Lawn and East Dallas, I don't know where the groundswell of
support will be. |

Cliff Reed:
As
you know, we generally agree on most matters;
however, I am afraid this strong mayor bit will
get a lot more attention and will pass.
What our Empress will do with
this "power", I am not for sure.
I would be willing to bet she takes some strong moves against those
on Council who have rained on her various parades. |

A very "connected" media guy
told me there's been a poll showing 54% support for Bah! Bah!'s "strong-arm"
government plan (Avi Adelman came up with that). Since his poll was
probably done by the same PR whiz who did a poll showing me several points ahead
of Steve Salazar, I am not very concerned with his poll.
This entire process is a major scam. That's
all there is to it. Bah! Bah! and her "mystery" backers hired goons
who said whatever they thought would get people to sign their petitions.
The idea that Bah! Bah! would turn in 30,000 signatures with only 20 or 30
having voter ID numbers is absolutely outrageous. Who knew the law
allowed "random" sampling to verify the signatures. Every group that
has done a petition drive to date has assumed they needed voter registration
numbers before turning in their petitions.
If Bah! Bah! is successful with her bogus petitions, then every wacko group
out there will just go around grabbing people (whether registered voters or
not) to sign their petition.
We don't even know if Bah! Bah!'s signers live in the city of Dallas.
We do know that a lot of money behind Bah! Bah!'s scam is coming from the
Park Cities. |

MSB:
I want to make one comment to you
regarding this Blackwood petition.
I am still VERY MUCH undecided about it,
and I will be reading
DallasArena.com other sites to learn more.
There is 1 MAJOR THING that I
have heard that upsets me greatly. Some
people on the current council want to change the
RULES/LAW regarding petitions like this as far as
verifying the signatures & such. What I sense & hear (hopefully,
I am wrong) is that if it is something they don't
like, they want to make it harder for it to be
approved. They also want to take longer to verify EVERY signature &
such.
If it was something they endorse (such
as the RECALL MAYOR MILLER Campaign) they want the
rules changed again to favor their side, such as by
extending deadlines & only verifying a lower percentage to ensure it
is valid. I believe in the LAW, it was written for
the betterment of all.
Sometimes,
it is GOOD for one & bad for the other. But we must follow it in
ALL circumstances. If we start picking & choosing, then we are just as bad
if not worse then those we oppose.
If Ms Blackwood files a VALID
PETITION it is up to the city BY LAW to
validate it or not. But they must do this for her or anyone else.
If however, she did not properly file
or such, then the city should not have to validate
it. But I understand everything so far has been done properly & correctly.
Now it is up to YOU & others to
DEFEAT it and anything else you disagree with at
ELECTION TIME.
I look forward to your response. |
If there was any doubt that
Bah! Bah! knows there are some non-Dallas and/or non-registered voters on her
petitions, her reaction to the City Secretary's decision to check all the
signatures should confirm Dallas residents are being wronged by this Park Cities
babe and her rich husband.

City
manager search suspended;
Suhm named acting
administrator, promised a $100,000 bonus
December 21, 2004 by
EMILY RAMSHAW / The Dallas Morning News |
...And they were trying to preserve the integrity
of the city manager search during council candidate Beth Ann Blackwood's
campaign to switch to a strong-mayor form of government, in which there
would be no city manager.
Ms. Blackwood turned in 30,000
signatures last month to bring the proposal before voters ? a prospect that
has spooked some of the top candidates for the city manager position, he
said.
... In a Sunday
interview, one search committee member said Richmond, Va., City Manager
Calvin Jamison is the front-runner for the Dallas job. Mr. Jamison will lose
his current job Jan. 1 ? the result of a ballot proposition to strengthen
the mayor's power. The decision effectively terminates the city manager
position in Richmond, and the city's newly elected mayor has said he would
not offer Mr. Jamison another job.
Dallas City Secretary Shirley
Acy said Monday that she and her staff have decided to count all 30,000
signatures submitted by Ms. Blackwood and her supporters ? a change from her
earlier decision to do a statistical sampling. But while 20,000 signatures
must be verified by Thursday for the vote to be placed on the May ballot,
city staffers have only counted 5,000.
On Friday, Ms.
Blackwood fired off a letter to the city attorney, accusing the council of
trying to delay or prevent certification of the signatures. She said that
she could take legal action if the signatures aren't verified by the
Thursday deadline. ... |
If Bah! Bah! is certain her
signatures are good voters who ACTUALLY LIVE IN DALLAS, then why is she
threatening a lawsuit?
This is a colossal waste of time and taxpayer dollars -- DALLAS TAXPAYER
DOLLARS. You have to make a decision soon to either join up with us
Aginners or tie your short tails to Our Mayor and her Park Cities friends.
The ODB are not united in favor of Bah Bah!'s scam.
