11/04/04 DISD vs WHISD
Matthew Barnebey
is obviously a disgruntled
person connected to Pershing Elementary School. It is too bad that clouds the
big picture. The big issues, rising test scores, ending the deseg order, the
largest bond program in history, should be the focus of a school district with
over 165,000 students.
If Dr. Moses could not move DISD to the next level,
blame that on the Board of Education. They would not
let him. Their obstruction made
it a great time for him to exit.
For example, did Dr. Moses want to make a more
accountable teaching staff? Yes. Could the Board fade the heat of the teacher
organizations? No. Dr. Moses needed
5 votes for a slightly stiffer evaluation tool,
but he only had the support of 4 board
members. The other 5 were cowards.
To top it off, among the 5 cowards are
4 minority board members. Obviously, minority children
are most directly influenced by poor teaching. Go figure.
Other progressive offerings from Dr. Moses and his staff were met with the same
negativity from the 5 cowards.
As with anything, Dr. Moses kept the DISD's leadership and the DISD's
Board afloat. I know because I was
there. Dr. Moses' presence, at least, caused the weak
links to try. I know why Dr. Moses was "tired." The
weak links on the Board have grown in number since Dr. Moses' arrival. Without
his presence, expect the weak links to infect the others.
Remember, one weak link named a press box at the new Jesse Owens Stadium after
himself and there were not 5 board members with enough
courage to say how self-serving that was. You did not know about "Mr. Press
Box," Hollis Brashear?
By the way, Dr. Moses DID disclose everything
regarding his relationship with Bracewell Patterson, verbally and in a memo. We
were told of it at his hiring. The ones who "do not recall" are the same
cowards who "wimped out on stiffer teacher
accountability.
Maybe someone will pay attention to the DISD
elections in May.
