I too, am very sorry that a young man like Mr. Welch had to die. I am
sorry his family and friends have to go through this horrible experience.
In reading their comments on DallasArena.com, I can understand their anger, hurt and need to take their emotions out on someone. You are providing them that service. Anyone writing in to you was not there, and did not witness the whole incident. Believe me, this shooting is being investigated by the Public Integrity Unit of the Dallas Police, and it will be investigated, investigated and investigated. The findings will then be sent to the Grand Jury. Public Integrity questions everyone who was at the scene and the questioning begins immediately. Each officer is separated, so a clear picture can evolve. At some point, this case will come before the Citizens Police Review Board for more questioning. It is my understanding, Chief Kunkle has decided that police involved in a shooting will not be out on the street and that will continue until after this process is complete. Sharon, you are right. This officer's life is changed forever, as well as his family's. Some citizens have come to believe officers are gun-packing fools just waiting to put a mark on their pistols. I assure you that is incorrect. Most police I know are caring, loving people who just want to protect and serve. I hope Mr. Welch's family and friends can have some closure as time goes on. Maybe his life and his death will help all of us to pay attention to those loved ones around us who need our help and step in when necessary. |
