8/22/04 Proposed Rezoning of 70.71
acre parcel of lan south of Grady Niblo Road.
Promises, Promises! My community have heard it all before from City Hall and
Developers.
How can anyone place value above human life! They propose 160+ homes (only 35
of the 70+ acres are developable) that our neighborhood is unable to handle.
At our meeting last week with the developers,
someone said City Officials laughed at the thought of
a child being killed because of the dangers this City of Dallas
project will bring.
Our children's safety is no laughing matter! After all, we moved to this area
so our children would be safe. Most of the area has
no sidewalks. We have asphalt streets. We have only two (2) entrances into our
community.
We have a very unique community. It has many
trees and much wildlife.
It is the only area in Dallas City limits that the atmosphere makes a bold
statement to you when you see it that you can have a "little taste of the
country within Dallas City limits." That will
soon change if those 160+ homes are allowed into our community. It will destroy
our way of life forever.
Our neighborhood is also home to at least 170+
families. We live in Southwest Dallas. Until
two years ago, the City of Dallas had virtually never
heard of us and certainly never recognized our presence. Our Community is only
now being recognized because of the undeveloped land
that will add monies to the City of Dallas' Budget.
Our neighborhood should not be misused to try to
revive Southwest Dallas, because it cannot. What they
are trying to do is the very thing that is continuing
to destroy this area and now our community. Southwest Dallas has been
overlooked too long. It is too late and unfair for our community to bear such a
burden.
Whether the developer builds what he promises remains to be seen. Once and if
this project is approved it is too late for our children and our neighborhood.
In the meantime, our community has agreed to meet with
the developer to see if he and our community can make any compromises.
We are always amenable to that, but not at the expense of our families lives.
They are trying to make us out as strictly environmentalist, but that is not
totally true, but what would be wrong with trying to preserve at least some of
what God placed here.
Come look at our area to see for yourself what I am
talking about.
City Hall is moving fast on this and we do not have much time to act.
Thank you for taking the time to be concerned with us.
