07/05/04  One of the "little people" who helped Laura Miller get elected.

As one of the little people who worked for Laura Miller's rise from council member to Mayor, I did not play as significant a role in that effort as others did.  I did an effective job for the tasks assigned to me.  I was also a very good ambassador when local politics came up in a discussion.

Most of my life, I have been a very good judge of character.  As a Republican, I amazed my family by working for a Democrat.  That wasn't the issue to me.  I felt that if she took the same values she had as a reporter and council member to the office of Mayor, her political label didn't matter to me.

How sad it has become that I failed to recognize that her liberal leanings would dictate her performance, not the promises as stated in her campaign literature or what she said with her many speeches.  So far, I have not seen anything in print that allows me to see the financial logic in her 180 degree swing to now support the Trinity River and bridge projects.  Something smells wrong here and I can just taste it!

Last week, the Mayor  was on KLIF talk radio.  The subject of Hank Tatum's 6/30/04 column in the DMN came up.  As part of that discussion, she said "If I run again"!

I've thought a lot about that short statement, and I have to conclude the she does recognize the serious erosion of the base of her supporters, like me, that proudly worked for her.  Believe me, the TRUST is gone.

Remember, fool me once and shame on you, fool me twice and shame on me.  It is time to work for a worthy opponent to end the pain she has caused to the citizens of Dallas.  I will not let her fool me twice!  I will NEVER vote for her if she runs for a State or Federal office.

I have a lot of company.  I hope she is smart enough to avoid the embarrassment of loosing a bid for reelection.  But, don't count on that as she seems to have gone to the Ron Kirk school of political management!

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
