04/17/04 She would be Queen.
You hit the nail squarely on the head with your comments about Laura
Miller in
Big D is Dysfunctional ... Thanks in large part to Ted
Benavides.
First, you made this important point, which is lost on so many folks -- even
those who read DallasArena.com:
This council is so over the top in
their meddling. ... The City Charter prohibits their meddling or pressuring
the City MisManager. Our Mayor is not from Dallas and
wants to turn our city into something that runs as badly as the East Coast
cities she left behind. Our Mayor thinks she can just ignore our City Charter.
Then you followed up with this:
... Our Mayor, who is about to
become officially "Our Meddling Mayor" on DallasArena.com. She is way too
involved in things the City Charter designates as the
responsibility of the City Manager.
You are so right about this "self-serving council" and "Our
Meddling Mayor."
Let me offer a reason for the behavior of both: They
are involved in an eternal love affair with
themselves. They suffer from a condition that
befalls all men and women with access to
unlimited power and money: Hubris.
Hubris -- or pride -- is a grandiose self-conception that
reduces other people to things. A more modern
term is Narcissism -- from the Greek myth about Narcissus, who stared at his
reflection in a pool until he wasted away and died.
They are self-absorbed and self-centered. They view themselves as god-like.
Their schemes are so grand the average folks
can't understand them or afford them.
They know no bounds. Their contempt for the rule of law (the city
charter) is so great, they simply ignore it. They're
above the law, don't you see.
They wallow in mob rule, which to their twisted minds, "legitimizes" their
actions.
These thieves and tyrants even have the nerve to call themselves our
neighbors.
I don't see the situation improving, but then again, who knows?
Samuel Adams once said: It does not take a majority
to prevail ... But rather an irate, tireless minority keen on setting brushfires
of freedom in the minds of men.
Sounds good to me. I think I'll strike a match with this observation:
No longer satisfied being a princess, Laura demands to be Queen.
