02/23/04 User Tax for Jones Stadium!
Yeah, that's the ticket!
I was listening to the news Sunday night and
heard a proposal County Judge Kelleher (a smart
woman!) is asking the Commissioners to look at. It is
the ticket tax.
Finally, an idea that makes sense. Even event attendees, when asked, say
this idea makes sense since sports teams and stadia are luxury items (not
necessities) in the city.
I still cannot see how any public official,
especially County Commissioners, can justify
subsidizing "Multi-million Dollar Player Salaries and Luxury Boxes" that 99%
of the rank and file taxpayers will never get to see.
We must demand that our commissioners require Jones to
open his books (from DAY ONE) and show the economic benefit he received in his
sports deals compared to that of the City of Irving. Based on that, one of two
things will happen:
1 -- The IRS will get him for lying OR
2 -- He will have to show he really took advantage of Irving and any other place
he may have done deals like what he is proposing for
Dallas County.
One more thing -- Do Dallas and Dallas County
government agencies have signs
out that say "Carpet Baggers and Hucksters WELCOME! --
Honest business people, go to Fort Worth!"? It seems that way to me.
The ticket tax is
really the only way to go with this deal.
