02/05/04 Tickled Pink
Along with legions of others in her core
constituency, I am still in mild shock over Mayor Miller's current bout of
string fever. You know, the stupid bridge over troubled waters that won't
help a dangerous and crumbling city one iota.
I got to thinking what a great photo it would make: Jerry Jones and the Temple of Doom in the foreground at Corinth and Industrial with the Spanish dude's bridge in the background.
It may not be that simple. As the
Dallas County Commissioner's Court and Jerry and Stephen begin
the jockeying
for position part of the process, the truth is trickling out.
If the election is won or more likely stolen, Dallas will have the highest tourist taxes in America. Let me repeat that, Dallas will have the highest taxes in America -- more than California, New York, Hawaii, anywhere. Let's say some people are leary of Jerry's promises of development since the Victory development has so far yielded not so much as a 7-Eleven.
The
stadium election will be another nail-biter,
with the usual breathless promises that will never come true here. If Jones loses,
he will threaten to move the team.
Mary Kay's brigade will be our version of the swallows returning every July. Laura Miller will be remembered as just another one of the could of, should of, would haves.
