01/01/04  How many times?

Here is an idea for a contest.

How many times has the City (or the County) promised taxpayers and voters a big return on investment and then, POW, NOTHING?!

Let's ask DallasArena.com readers to send in their favorites from the past 10-20 years and see if we can spot a pattern

Why?  Because the ODB and crew seem to be "recycling" Bad Deals on us, and we are not even calling them on it.

  JC:

Keep trying!

Y
our thinking can only lead to proper management.

T
hat would be contradictory to the government's need to control the purse strings, hence the sheeple.

A few examples to get us started:

Reunion

The Promise:  Sports Arena with hotels, office buildings, high rise residential, shopping

The Result:  Parking garage with a foundation to hold up 20-story office building and only the hotel.

Meyerson

The Promise
:  Symphony Center with, office buildings, high rise residential, shopping

The Result:  Parking garage with a foundation to hold up a 20-story office building and expensive parking rates.

Starplex

The Promise
:  Starplex Amphitheater (now the Smirnoff)

The Result:  A severely underutilized facility with revenues that fall far short of promised projections after destroying poor neighborhoods and displacing the people who lived there.

What do you think?

If we can compile a fairly comprehensive listing, we can arm ourselves against the "snake oil" salesmen who prey on the innocent and pilfer the public coffers.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
