Response to Dallas
Morning News Editorial
"Feuds
and Flip-Flops - So this is what's written between Oakley's lines" - The Dallas
Morning News Editorial, October 30, 2005.
My, how things have changed.
The
Dallas Morning News has
given thought to giving Dallas City Councilman Ed
Oakley a new name. From this point on, I will
refer to Mr. Oakley as Ed ?Flip-Flop? Oakley.
In March, 13, 2005, Dallas City Councilmembers,
including Mr. Oakley, signed a letter published in the Dallas Morning News?s
Viewpoints - the ?Statement of Change? - detailing
their collective belief of Blackwood?s flaws, promising Dallas
voters something better, if we would give them the
chance by rejecting Blackwood.
Blackwood was defeated at the polls, almost half of the North Dallas
vote believed in the collective promise of those 13 elected officials,
including Mr. Oakley. That promise was broken.
Fast
track to October, 2005, The
Dallas Morning News
asked Mr. Oakley if his charter amendment would improve governance in Dallas,
his beleaguered response was ?No.?
I?m guessing a majority of Dallas voters (including the half of the North Dallas
vote who did not support Blackwood) would respond
with a resounding ?YES? in response to
The
Dallas Morning News
question to Dallas? voters, Anyone feeling a little snookered today?
So, is Dallas ready to support the 2007 Dallas mayoral candidacy of Mr. Ed
?Flip-Flop? Oakley or for that matter, any of the other 12 Dallas City Council
members who broke their promise to lead the whole city across the finish line in
a November charter referendum?
You know the old saying, ?Fool Me Once Shame On You - Fool Me Twice Shame On Me?
--
My question to Dallas voters is, Who will be fooled next time?
