07/11/05 A citizen who
cares enough to do something.
If you listen to the doings at City Hall (good and
bad) on WRR, you have to recognize the name "Joe Martin". You may not
recognize him on the street because he's a regular looking guy. That is,
he's regular looking for an older gentleman who doesn't sit around counting his
ailments.
Joe Martin has been a thorn in the side of the bad guys at City Hall as long as
I can remember, and sometimes an irritant to the good guys who resent his
activism. He knows the City Code, chapter and verse. He points out
when they are crossing the line with "executive" meetings. He is like the
Energizer Bunny -- he just never stops.
In typical Joe Martin fashion, when technology offered us the internet and
e-mail to communicate, he bought a computer and learned how to use it.
Those of us on his "list" get timely info-mails several times a week. If
it were not for Joe Martin and his good friend, Stan Aten, many big and little
items regarding activities at our City Hall (and City Halls throughout the
country) would go unnoticed and unknown.
Here is a typical Joe e-mail that keeps the rest of us on our toes:
Good Afternoon,
Citizens of Dallas,
With the preparation of this year's Budget, it
brings up an opportunity for taxpayers to give
their input and ask questions of their elected
officials in each district.
Remember there's a pledged promise to
present amendments to our City Charter on November
8, giving another chance to offer your
comments on the Strong Mayor proposition.
Mark your calendars.
Joe Martin |
Thanks, Joe for being who you
are.
