07/07/05 Dallas' Mayoral Recall Scam Dallas-based Clergy for Recall leadership were recently viewed as courageous for tanking their recall effort, but to then say our city owes them heartfelt thanks is going a bit too far.
Recall efforts against Mayor Miller have failed three times thus far. These recall efforts appear to be based solely on race and personality issues. This was demonstrated by Clergy for Recall leader Rev. S.C. Nash in a previous Dallas Morning News (Recall effort fades away, Dave Levinthal/May 10, 2004) article where Rev. Nash states Dallas was racist and Mayor Miller was reflective of Dallas? racism.
Rev. S.C. Nash and Clergy for Recall leaders did not tank their recall effort for the betterment of Dallas. They tanked it because they knew what kind of recall election support they would have had now that the FBI is investigating corruption at Dallas City Hall. If this group had the required signatures to initiate their recall why not submit to an independent count?
Placing totality of blame for all of Dallas? problems at Dallas City Hall on Mayor Miller won?t cut it. A brave start would have first provided Dallas? citizens specific reasons to support their recall efforts. To my recollection, this was never fully explained to Dallas? electorate. By the way, will the Clergy for Recall equally call for immediate resignations or better yet, initiate recall initiatives of any Dallas council members indicted as a result of the Dallas FBI investigations?
