06/06/05  Thoughts on Love Field

Close Love Field down and really put resources into Red Bird (now Executive Airport).  It is in a better location, would really give some credence to the "Southern Sector Initiatives", has much better freeway access and would be a better draw for Downtown and the southern suburbs.  The northern suburbs already have DFW.  And why 2 in-city airports anyway?

Extend Bachman Park into Love Field and make it a real Central Park for Dallas.

While I never did think the Wright Amendment was the right approach, Oak Lawn will suffer (if not die) if Love Field is opened up because of the increased noise that will follow.  It is pretty noisy now.  Imagine what a disaster it will be with all of 32 gates open and running at full or "nearly-full" capacity!

As far as Love threatening DFW, the airlines have "mismanaged" themselves into the mess they are in now.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
