05/03/04  From the Front Line in the Black Community.

I want to share with you all a few thoughts and observations leading up to this election, from the perspective of a member of the African-American community.

Super Sunday was a success as far as I could tell. Many churches rented buses and drove their membership to the polls.  There are a few random "Vote Yes" signs in the neighborhood but most of those have been placed on vacant lots and at various slumlord rental houses, which do not reflect the citizens of the community.

Young Black people are voting in this election.  They have been encouraged from many angles.  I personally know of a couple thousand who will be voting, and voting "NO" to Prop 1 in this election.

Dwaine Caraway is not to be trusted.....still.

Several prominent figures in our community paid for billboard ads stating that they were Against Proposition 1.  You may have seen them around town.  These signs were posted primarily in the southern half of the city.

Caraway took money for the signs from Councilman Fantroy, Rev. HJ Johnson and others to run through May 7th.  Over the last week, the signs have been replaced by other advertising when he was specifically instructed to keep the ads posted through the end of the election.  He claims that they were "moved temporarily"  Caraway is still a scoundrel and more "propped up than ever before" according to one of my contacts.

I have one message for Caraway, if you run for a City Council seat under the onus of integrity and lead, you could at least be accountable to those in the community you intend to serve.

After this election, several Council-people in the Southern half of the city will be termed out.  I truly hope that this will inspire new blood to step into the fray instead of retreads like Caraway who have no business running.

Editor's Comments:  Although if true, the above is disappointing information, DallasArena.com stands by the endorsement of Dwaine Caraway.  The alternative of even 2 more years of Brain-Dead Thorton-Reese is unacceptable.  sb

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
