03/03/05  Media Bias against Coalition for Open Government

First of all, I am grateful that such a diverse group could come together in support of Voting ?NO? against the Strong-Arm Mayor deal.  That being said?

It is obvious that the media supports the strong mayor campaign and the DMN continues to be Managed by the Preston Hollow/Park Cities puppeteers.  In fact, their tentacles have now reached the news media.

I taped some of the newscasts from the afternoon and evening and watched the rest live.  I also had friends monitor the others.   Thanks to Channel 52 and Pax who show delayed newscasts, I saw them all.

I could have simply missed it (yeah right) but I have never seen so many fluff pieces on the news than I did last night.  A 5 minute piece on selling used cell phones?  Another 5 minutes on the merits of dieting with Trimspa? Three to four more minutes about the lottery winner in Rowlett?  My B.S. detector is up and blinking madly.

There were cameras from many different stations present but nobody thought to even give 30 seconds of their newscast to one of the most significant issues in the history of Dallas politics.

The press conference today only received airtime from Fox 4 news at 4PM.   In the rest of Fox's newscasts the story did not air anymore.   I did not see or hear of any airtime allotted on any other station, despite all of them being present for the entire press conference. You know the DMN has no mention of our meeting (please prove me wrong as I would love to be wrong on this), and they own Channel 8, and so it goes.

I think we know where the media stands.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
