you're against a Strong-Arm Mayor, it's time to step out.

This Wednesday, March 2, 2005, we need you at City
Hall at 11:30 a.m. in the Flag Room for a Noon kickoff of the Coalition for Open
Government's campaign against the Blackwood proposal to change our city
government from council-manager to strong mayor.
|
We expect most of the council members to step out during their break to greet
and support our group. We need you to be there to let those sitting on the
fence know that you oppose turning our city over to the control of a few power
brokers who live in the Park Cities.
I hope you can make it because this is a very pivotal time for our city.
Do we make some minor corrections to our charter next Fall to improve how City
Hall operates, or do we throw out a system that has served us well for over 60
years for a strong mayor system which will take us down the wrong roads of
corruption which know exist in Philadelphia, Chicago and even Detroit?
The council-manager system works well for San Antonio (larger than us) and Ft.
Worth. It has worked well for Dallas. Unfortunately, rather than
resolve some personality conflicts, a few powerbrokers would turn our city over
to a monarchy. We can't let that happen.
If you can make it, please call me at 214.351.5052 or contact me by return
e-mail.
We will have sandwiches furnished by Dickey's Bar-B-Que.
