I have been chatting with friends regarding the proposal to eliminate the city manager and replace that person with an all-powerful mayor.   Everyone agrees that the current system does not work; however, that does not mean we want a mayor with all the power and no checks and balances.

I don't think our current mayor or any living person can be totally responsible for running this city.   There are not enough hours in the day to the job and it requires exceptional people skills.  

I would prefer a modified proposal that provide for a CEO (Mayor) and a board of directors (city council) with the city staff reporting to them.
 

I cannot encourage anyone I know to support the charter amendment that is on the May ballot.
