The Urban Market --- Dallas
The
"Urban Market" of downtown Dallas should be renamed the
"City Of Dallas Charity Market". |
A privately
owned business MUST be able to pay its overhead and make a profit, or close up.
The taxpayers of Dallas cannot continue to pay for "pipe dreams" of others who
are unable to operate a business at break even or at a profit.
It does not matter if the market
had planned that other supporting housing units would provide it the necessary
customers needed to be successful. The bottom line is that the overall scheme
did not work due to poor planning of many, and it is now time for the Urban
Market to borrow operating capital on its own to continue operation, or close
the doors.
If housing unit owners are to benefit from the presence of the market, then
perhaps they should subsidize the grocery operation. Taxpayers from remote
portions of Dallas should not have to pay for the Downtown
market any more than they should have to support other privately operated
elements of a community, such as private medical facilities or animal grooming
facilities.
