Bernadette Wright Nutall
Even the DMN Editorial Board can't
be wrong -- all the time. DISD needs Bernadette Wright Nutall.

ELECTION '06Challenger
Bernadette Wright Nutall is the better candidate in the District 9 contest
for a seat on DISD's board of trustees. She offers more promise than
incumbent Ron Price, the nine-year board stalwart who has come to epitomize
the self-serving excesses of DISD's worst leadership.
Mr. Price is so personable that
it is easy to overlook his miserable record ? when he'll admit to it, that
is. ...
Mr. Price was convicted in 2003 of a misdemeanor
family violence charge against his former wife.
Mr. Price
has also abused taxpayer trust. A DISD review found that Mr. Price
billed the district more than $31,000 for
travel and almost $19,000 for
cellphone service over the past three years. He opposed 2005
ethics reforms cutting off DISD funds he's used to spend lavishly on
personal projects in his district. Worse, Mr.
Price accepted $25,000 in political contributions from Houston businessmen
doing hundreds of millions of dollars of business with DISD.
Surprise! Mr. Price was head of the committee that reviewed the company's
contracts with the district.
... Ms. Nutall offers a fresh perspective.
She's worked in the Dallas public schools and has
an impressive list of accomplishments, including heading up a summer
learning program for girls. Ms. Nutall seems to have an
appreciation for the need to build forward-thinking coalitions, as opposed
to Mr. Price's penchant for race politics. ...
Isn't it time District 9 voters had a trustee who places
children's interests above his own? |
DallasArena.com completely
agrees with every statement in this DMN editorial. If the people of South
Dallas and East Dallas fail to replace Price with Ms. Nutall, it will be a sad
day for DISD students and taxpayers.
