Leigh Ann Ellis Lois Parrott

DallasArena.com endorses Leigh Ann Ellis for this school board race.
Lois Parrott has failed at every level as a DISD
Trustee. She can't even talk to constituents without her husband running
the show, which leads DallasArena.com to ask:
Is Lois Parrott really a
puppet? Parrott has blatantly lied in depositions, see
www.DallasISD.com,
This DMN editorial endorsing
Parrott's opponent, Leigh Ann Ellis, pretty much says it all as to why Parrott
should not be re-elected to the DISD Board of Trustees.

DISD District 3: Ellis' vision superior to Parrott's status quo;

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa has
ambitious goals. His ideas resonate.
What he needs from Dallas school
district voters is a little help. They can start in District 3 by electing
challenger Leigh Ann Ellis to replace trustee Lois
Parrott, who in nine years on the board has shown she is too wedded to its
ineffective past.
Dr. Parrott, board president since
May 2004, seems oddly out of step with Dr. Hinojosa,
... She says she supports him and "backs
everything he's done" but turns defensive when asked about his plan to give
principals bonuses for improving student achievement.
Illogically, she says, "I doubt Dr. Hinojosa thinks it's a good idea,"
... "That would not be accurate," Dr. Hinojosa
told us when we asked him later about his plan. "I'm 100 percent for it."
Dr. Parrott, 57, a faculty
administrator at Richland College who has taught there since 1975, also is
defensive at the notion of people besides educators getting involved in DISD
business.
... Ms. Ellis, who owns a landscape design
company, mixes a business owner's sensibility with a long record of
educational involvement. She says she supports putting the DISD budgets
online for taxpayer review.
Dr. Parrott seemed to think the
district already did this. (It doesn't.)
... The May 13 election gives DISD voters an
opportunity for a fresh start. Ms. Ellis is one challenger who deserves a
chance because she offers a vision that meshes with the superintendent's and
focuses on achievement.
It would be unfair to blame all of
the district's problems on one trustee, but it would be equally unfair to
students and taxpayers to keep electing defenders of the status quo.

Even the DMN is right once in a
while. It's very important that Leigh Ann Ellis be elected to represent
District 3 on the DISD School Board.
