Immigration
With the
documentation we have now, it is virtually impossible
to know who is illegal. This is similar to the withholding
tax on wages -- the government wants others too do its job, and forces them to
do so under penalty of jail and fines.
If the entitlements were stopped, it would pretty much solve the (Mexico border)
immigration problem, the school problem, increase the effectiveness of public
health care, etc.
Here's the dynamic: The almighty minimum wage, Social
Security and onerous government impediments (as well
as ridiculous tort law) make it pretty much impossible to fill lower rung labor
jobs at anything close to a workable free market wage. Government-fostered
false wage structure is a huge disincentive to domestic labor. Plus, the
government "bribes" illegal aliens to come here and work by turning a blind eye
to them at the border and on the job, giving them all sorts of welfare
entitlements and schooling benefits, and catering to them as another worthy
"victim" group. Then, the government turns around and blames business for all
this.
It is the same dynamic as you see with other groups -- protect the people
dependent on government, especially if you can have them breed uncontrollably
and create more voters, then just keep them convinced
they need to vote for you, or your party to keep all their benefits. "Soak the
rich, soak business", soak any scapegoat that can
elicit envy in the dependent classes.
There are already laws about hiring illegals and violating our borders. The
government will not enforce them. As long s the government provides
entitlements to illegals, they will come. It is not rocket science.
It amazes
me how politicians (for the most part) are trying to blame employers for the
immigration mess.
They want US employers to do the job they refuse to do in determining whose
papers are genuine and whose papers are fraudulent, collect the taxes for them,
etc., etc. And all the while, they GIVE ILLEGAL
ALIENS ALL SORTS OF ENTITLEMENTS, including free schooling, medical services,
social services, automatic citizenship for their offspring, various licenses,
etc., etc. (again).
Further, they refuse to allow cooperation between their own agencies in
identifying and deporting illegals.
There is no need for a wall or fence. There is only the need for the government
to stop giving illegal aliens a free entitlements ride and enforce the
immigration laws on the books. And, yes, that would mean deporting 10 or 11
million illegals.
If they stop the giveaways, I'd bet at least half of those illegals would scoot
back over the river without any further coaxing.
The politicians, of course, will do nothing of the sort. They'll continue to
coddle the illegal aliens because they think that behavior will translate into
votes... the law be damned.
But then, we already knew laws are
for us commoners, not the privileged politician class.
