03/30/06 DISD Leadership
is Non-Existent
This past week has been more than disturbing.
We have had three days of high school and junior high students skipping school
and running amuck. Worse, we had school officials and elected officials
condoning and commending them for skipping school.
I posted the following on DallasObserver.com's blog "UnFair Park" in response to
an entry by Andrea Grimes about the truants at City Hall:
This is all so
bogus. Some of these kids may be "hip" to what they are
doing, but most are clueless.
When Supt Hinojosa said
there would be no punishment for these truants, he
should have submitted his resignation at the same time.
I was dismayed to
hear my State Rep Rafael Anchia defend these truants,
particularly since he is a former DISD Trustee.
Kids need to know there are consequences to violating rules - Oh,
I forgot - that's what all this is about. No
one wants to be held accountable for violating
our current immigration laws.
If McCain's side prevails,
we will be sending a signal to these truants
and other young people that there are no bad
consequences for disobeying community and federal rules.
As a taxpayer, I'm furious that school buses were sent
to retrieve the truants. When
you consider what it will cost the school in state funds when
all these truants' two-day absences are
calculated, it gets even worse.
Ms. Villasenoro has it so
wrong. "We built all this. All you see, .". If
there were Hispanics working on those buildings, they were not likely
ILLEGALS.
It ticks me off that
law-breakers think that all Hispanic-Americans broke
our immigration laws to become citizens.
My neighbor is a legal resident who
followed the rules. His 5
children were born here and attend DISD schools
(oldest daughter graduates this year). I just hired a young man
who is a legal resident from Mexico. He is a
DISD graduate. His family followed the rules
to immigrate and settle in Dallas.
How can we expect young
people to respect any law, when the school
superintendent and other officials condone and allow them to cut
school. State Rep Anchia told NBC
that these kids showed "saavy" by having their
demonstration on a slow news day like Monday.
Monday is a school day,
slow news day or not.

The gatherings at City were not some
spontaneous convergences. They were organized and orchestrated by
radio jocks and other media. Nothing wrong with that, except they
told kids to skip school. The point when those kids skipped school
Monday and Tuesday is where it became a big problem for me. |

Joe May Memorial -
Illegal Alien Amnesty Bill
Sometimes in dying you have a bigger impact than when you
are alive. When DISD students play hooky from school to carry the flag
of their country - Mexico - to City Hall in support of a bill that would
green-light illegal aliens to get automatic standing to apply for
citizenship - then, somewhere, Joe May is smiling. |

You saw the same footage as I
did. Unruly punks climbing on the artwork in the wading pool at City Hall.
They were having a party. There may have been a handful who knew why they
were there, but most of those kids were playing follow the leader.
According to his blog below, my friend, Jim Schutze, saw a completely different
situation than I observed.

No telling how many Mexican-American kids have seen
Walkout, the movie directed
by Edward James Olmos depicting a mass walkout by high school
students in East Los Angeles in 1968. It just premiered on HBO
Saturday March 18. (You can see the trailer
here.)
But I do find lots of references to it on
MySpace,
including comments from kids who think it kicked off the mass
walkouts of the last few days around the country.
... It?s a political miracle at
several levels. The most immediate is the political awakening of
young Latinos, especially those of Mexican descent.
...
I hate to be really superficial about it,
but those kids also just looked really good and sounded smart
when they were given a chance to actually talk. I heard one of
them say, ?We are the pilgrims.? I got chills.
...
It?s exciting to see them learning that in American
politics and culture, you take to the streets and put a little
fear of God in the fat cats if you want change. People disparage
Mexican immigrants for not voting. But nobody wants them to
vote. Eventually the people who are walking out will learn that
voting works even better. But walking out ain?t bad.
My idea for a placard:
?Build your own damn house.?

| As cold as it may sound,
nothing those kids did Monday and Tuesday will change anything. Their
demonstrations only gave credence to the fears of many citizens of all colors.
Waiving Mexican flags while demanding to be treated the same as US citizens was
more than a little incongruous. |

Figured Schulte would come down on the
Hollywood side of anarchy. |

People are not going to remember the smart
kids who Schutze was able to feret out. They are going to remember
a bunch of punks waiving Mexican flags and refusing to disburse while
DISD officials condoned their misbehavior and DPD officers stood around
looking helpless. |

Rad Field:
You and I know some moms and dads
went to work Monday and Tuesday thinking their
children were safe in school --- having NO idea the schools would just
let them WALK OUT with no adult/parental supervision.
Thank goodness for the media
helicopters flying overhead -- at least most
except DPD knew what was happening. We
knew these events were being planned three days
before. This situation was a mess.
Just think of the BIGGER MESS if
there were a surprise terror strike in the
downtown area. Evacuation out of the city might not be possible.
However, MARY may have a secret plan. The
County cannot even account for around $400,000
in grant funding for emergencies. Of course, they are beginning to look
for that. |

When that mob of truants
charged into City Hall, every one of them should have been arrested on the spot.
We will never know how much all that performing for the cameras cost Dallas
taxpayers and DISD taxpayers. All those cops protecting City Hall were men
and women who were not out in our neighborhoods protecting our homes and
businesses. I want to know how much it is going to cost taxpayers when the
DISD calculates all the absences. I want to know how much it cost to send
buses out to pick up those truants.
What you want to bet we never know those costs because the DISD will hide the
numbers. If you haven't seen
Allen Gwinn's report
on Lois the Parrott's perjury and Ron the Price's wife beating conviction, you
need to read it soon.
Supt. Hinojosa has set the tone for anarchy in DISD high schools. Does
anyone really think those kids are going to follow the rules anymore? They
broke school rules, and got themselves on television with no bad consequences.
That's a bad lesson to be teaching young people.
And, here's another sore point -- why were those truants from Irving, Mesquite,
Birdville and other
suburbs mobbing our City Hall? Shows how smart they are -- can't even find
the City Hall in the town where they live. The DMN reports "About
1,000 Irving students participated in protests Tuesday at Dallas City Hall."
Maybe they aren't learning anything about U.S. governmental roles. Don't
guess you can expect anyone to respect our city limits, when they disregard our
border with Mexico.
What happened in Dallas this week was not a good thing. Some smart and
some not so smart kids learned some bad lessons that will not stand them well as
adults.
Whose fault was it that hundreds of school kids were out of class, off campus?
Well, who's in charge of the DISD? That's whose fault it was. That's
why Supt. Hinojosa needs to resign.
This was no wonderful expression of political naivet? those kids skipping
school and rioting at City Hall was anarchy.
These pictures were sent by someone at Let's Roll along with a website the
sender thought we might want to peruse (www.mexica-movement.org/granmarcha.htm):
These rioters do not speak for the average Mexican-American immigrant.
Most of my neighbors are too busy making a living and providing for their
families to participate in the stuff you will see on
www.mexica-movement.org/granmarcha.htm.
Unfortunately, the loud and obnoxious always get more attention than law-abiding
and responsible people.
It is distressing that aging hippies will still see mayhem and disrespect for
the United States as some sort of rite of passage. What those kids at City
Hall did this week was reinforce negative stereotypes, and they certainly did
nothing to gain sympathy for the plight of illegal immigrants of any age.
Clearly, no one at DISD understands the term "discipline" because those truants
at City Hall will not get any punishment for skipping school or storming into
City Hall and disturbing law abiding citizens trying to do business at City
Hall. This was a bad lesson learned by a bunch of truants who clearly do
not appreciate the education DISD taxpayers are providing for them.
I can tell you this voter will not be supporting any DISD bond elections for a
long time.
