03/22/06 Where do
we spend the money?
As Proposition 14 passed, it seems as if some
Politicians forgot why people voted for the money to
help the homeless and why many people voted against
the 23 million dollars.
Here is a question whether you were for the Proposition or against. You're
going to spend $1.75 million to get people out
of homelessness. Do you spend that money to
address the single's population living on our streets,
in our business doorways and alleys, or do you spend that
money to take single's individuals out of the shelters they live in
now?
It is a shame we can't just be honest with our citizens regardless of
their personal opinion on this issue.
If we are going to spend a large portion of the
$2.5 million of seed money to address recovery and
housing for our homeless, why is there a need in City Hall and by others
to mislead our citizens that this downtown Apartment and SRO project
will in someway elevate the street homeless issue in our community?
Regardless whether a person agrees with me or not, I
show them the human decency of being honest.
I myself am for mixed income housing as a
proven effective way to combat both poverty and homelessness (and thus
addressing many social-ill issues). But,
I'm against sending false messages to our citizens to
get a project passed.
The biggest question facing all Americans is why
Government Employees/Politicians feel they must do a
James Frey (lie) to American citizens to get things done?
Have the citizens of our Nation become so inept that
they must be mislead or have our elected officials
become inept that they can't do their job without
lying?
Next Tuesday (Special Meeting at 10AM), I will ask the
City Council to support the Central Dallas Ministries
Project downtown, but every citizen needs to know,
this is not to address the visible homeless in our
community or in your neighborhood or even downtown.
What it primarily addresses is the shortage of
affordable housing.
