02/14/06 The
Real Joe May
Please don't post my name. I wish to stay unknown.
The Joe I knew was a myopic man---a man who refused to
see anything outside his ethnic background. He could
not or refused to understand the value American Citizenship, which is very sad
for a veteran. He thought he did, but he didn't.
Joe had no children. He didn't understand the stress
of worrying that you could lose a job opportunity to
someone who wasn't supposed to be in the country. I would not blame the DISD
teachers if they unionize or became a more aggressive union, because of this
issue. It is a slap in their faces.
I told Joe it was going to blow up in his face. He
didn't care. I had a hard time believing DISD was
worse than the New Orleans school system. Now I know it is
and why it is.
Joe was so proud of that stupid,
poorly written Macerania Hernandez editorial. Of
course, after reading it, I understand why I don't get the DMN
philosophy.
You're right DMN is
a tool. I was at Joe's
memorial. After awhile, I was really uncomfortable. Despite stepping on a
landmine, they were still pushing
for hiring illegal teachers.
I have to agree Hinojosa is not the man to fix DISD
schools. The right man or woman may never be hired,
because of their skin color, which is funny
because Joe was an EEO
officer. After hearing
Steve Salazar speak, I thought he was from some city
council in MEXICO. I got the feeling they
aren't looking for teachers who speak
Spanish, but Hispanic teachers who were bilingual. It
really resembled the funerals of Coretta Scott
King or Paul Wellstone.
The politicos
who spoke at Joe's memorial are out of touch with
going on outside of their agenda. I learned this was not about education;
it was about power. In fact, Eliza May said
that illegals should be able to get professional
positions. I guess she can't hear the quickening of the heart beat of Middle
America on this issue.
This whole hiring of illegal teachers was very hypocritical considering Joe had
to be a US Citizen for his job. I guess it was good
that the Mexican Consul General was a no show.
After this memorial, I have really bad feeling worse things are in store. I
hope what I am seeing doesn't come to fruition.
