01/31/06 KINKO'S
Hollis Brashear is trying to
take the high road here on the KINKO contract.
School Board Trustee Brashear's main objection
to the KINKO deal was the loss of jobs in the DISD's
print shop - his good
friends.
If the deal was costing the schools more, someone should have spoken up sooner.
For sure, there were savings in the reduction of work
at the DISD printing center. That once extremely large department handles
the big print jobs. There was no mention of the reduction, but that would
require some work on the reporters' part.
DMN's Tawnell Hobbs is
a lazy reporter, who expects to be spoon-fed facts. That does not excuse the
oversight issue.
There is always another angle with Hollis Brashear,
but Tawnell and the other DISD reporter are blind to it. After all,
Brashear did vote to name a portion of the new
DISD stadium (Hollis Brashear Press Box) after himself
(and that Tawnell Hobbs never reported).
Brashear has cut out young, qualified African-American
vendors and professionals in favor of less qualified African-Americans who are
of his generation or attend his very large church. For him, it's all about
maintaining positions and access for his buddies. His brother works for DISD.
Brashear's grandson worked for the computer vendor and somehow walked off
with DISD computer equipment.
Anyway, just a little background.
