01/21/06  Uninsured's will get their vehicles towed!

The Dallas City Council has a deal on towing vehicles driven by uninsured motorists.  If the vote is not unanimous on Wednesday, it will be a strong majority.
Council has agreed to "review" the program in two years to make sure it is going well and being enforced and implemented uniformly
Council has agreed that police will hand out a prepaid postage survey card to those being towed, so they can comment to us about their treatment at hands of tow truck company and the auto pound.
Council has agreed to collect data on who is being towed (where they live, race, sex).
Council has agreed that the City Manager and Police Chief will advise the council and discuss operational options if the auto pound reaches 95% percent capacity.

It's all good news!  We need to get uninsured drivers off Dallas streets.  I hope they are going to designate the new revenue from selling the impounded cars from these uninsured drivers to a fund for new police hires.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
