With all the racket about Dallas County
Constable Mike Dupree and his Honduran ex-boyfriend, I've been in a
difficult spot. I like Mike, and he has been very attentive to the
needs of my neighborhood in particular and NW Dallas in general.
Still, he has disappointed a lot of people who supported him. |
Dallas Observer's
Matt Pulle has had a couple of killer stories that don't shine a positive light
on Constable Dupree.
Green-Eyed Monster
and
Cold as ICE.
It's hard to take Mike's side in this sordid mess, but there does seem to be a
bit of piling on. He has given his political enemies a lot of ammunition
against him, and they are not hoarding the bullets.

This week, CBS11'S Sarah Dodd had another shocker in
her report on Les Tanaka's fall from power in the Dallas Asian Chamber
of Commerce.
Asian Chamber Investigates Leader's Expenses.
Again, I like Les Tanaka. He has done a lot of good. |
| |
| It's clear the Asian business
community in the Harry Hines area has benefited from Tanaka's political skills.
Northwest Dallas has also benefited from the success of all those retail stores
and new shopping malls. Still, it is distressing for part of his problems
with the chamber membership to be alleged charges made by Tanaka at area strip
clubs. Nothing has had a more detrimental impact on Northwest Highway and
the Harry Hines area than sexually oriented businesses.

Tanaka ~ His ego.
He was so enamored with
being enamored that he figured he was above others and
if caught they might look the
other way. Dr.
H ~ While the
argument can be made, How can a person actually follow what the hell
hundreds of others are doing, it only points back to the bloat in
all government run taxpayer (other peoples'
money) funded entities. His accountability is that
he knows abuse is taking place but does nothing about it.
The cheating principal?
~ She should be thrown to the lions
despite the correct assertion on your part that her treatment
is unfair vs. Dr.
H. An educated public is
necessary. A publicly funded
education is anti-American. I don't
care if Ben Franklin had the idea.
We know great leaders are only people.
They, too,
can have rancid ideas.
IIn
Franklin's defense,
he was of the mind that everyone was pulling his own weight.
Constable Dupree
~ I like how far we've come that the gay sex thing is not
even an issue let alone the Daddy -lover/son angle.
If it can be proven he misused his power and had a person
falsely arrested, he has trouble ahead.
It's
too bad when those we trust fail and fail
big-time. And,
it's not just honest forgivable mistakes.
|
|
It will really temper my sympathy if it turns out that Les Tanaka was just an
old horn dog who helped keep the topless bars in business.
I'm so tired of hypocrites.
|
|
Speaking of hypocrites, Dr. Hinojosa has been
catching a lot of grief here on DallasArena.com. He's about to
catch a lot more. This man has not been doing his job.
Despite his pleasant personality and outstanding credentials, he is not
up to the job. |
There was a front page
Dallas Managed News
story this week which confirms all I've been saying about the status of things
at the DISD.

Wilmer-Hutchins cheating probe targets former
principal
Ex-principal's lawyer denies wrongdoing
in TAKS cheating scandal
January 22, 2007By
JOSHUA BENTON / The Dallas Morning News
|
The investigation into TAKS cheating in Wilmer-Hutchins schools is moving up the district's chain of command.
Jatis McCollister, the former principal of Alta Mesa Elementary, knew that cheating was going on and that the school's high test scores were unearned, according to a complaint filed by officials in a state administrative court on Friday.
... "If you take on the role of being the leader of a campus, that comes with responsibilities," said Texas Education Agency spokeswoman Suzanne Marchman.
"It's your duty to ensure there isn't this sort of wrongdoing on your campus." ...
|
Considering the huge difference
in salary between an elementary school principal and Dr. Hinojosa's outrageous
compensation as DISD Superintendent, it's hard to understand why she is being
held to such a high standard of fiduciary responsibility when no one blames Dr.
H for anything that has gone wrong at DISD.
Why is Dr. H getting a pass on the credit card fraud mess that happened under
his watch? To paraphrase TEA's Marchman:
|
If you take on the role of being the head of a billion dollar school
district, that comes with responsibilities. It's your duty to
ensure there isn't this sort of wrongdoing under your watch. |
Twenty-two kids got assistance
with their TAKS scores in Wilmer-Hutchins, and the principal was either involved
in the cheating or involved in the cover up or asleep at the wheel or all of the
above. She's going to lose her teaching certificate.
Over 500 DISD employees abused DISD credit cards over an extended period.
Millions of DISD tax dollars were stolen or misspent by these DISD employees
under Dr. H's leadership. His response has been to let his henchman point
the blame to a woman underling. To compound his lack of leadership in
preventing the credit card abuse, Dr. H got the school board to hire a private
law firm to run the investigation at a current cost to the DISD nearing a
million.
An elementary school principal is held to a higher standard of leadership than
the superintendent over school district with a billion dollar budget. How
wrong is that?
I am not condoning what the school principal may have done in the TAKS cheating
at her school. It's just a bit two-face for the weight of the TEA to come
down on her, when the DISD leadership gets a pass over the million-dollar credit
card scandal.
I am not condoning what Les Tanaka may have done in his position as head of the
Asian Chamber. The Asian business community has been very tolerant of the
sexually oriented businesses along Harry Hines. Any righteous indignation
over Les spending Chamber money in topless bars rings a bit hollow.
I am not condoning Constable Mike Dupree using his position to retaliate against
an ex-boyfriend. It's beyond sad that a man could accomplish so much in
life and be brought down by such fit of jealous pettiness.
|
|
Why can't people just do what they are
supposed to do?
Why can't people in leadership live up to the trust of those who gave
them their position of power? |
There are those who say we
shouldn't be judgmental, that there is no black or white. Such thinking
encourages the irresponsibility that has lead to our numerous local scandals.
There are lines between right and wrong. Pretending otherwise will get you
in trouble every time.
