While it is sad that Mr. Woodard's business was so unfairly treated, I for one would LOVE to see him move to Oak Cliff. There is room in Wynnewood Village as well as just across the street in the old Exxon service center that has been vacant for over five years now.
Since the City's Economic Development staff did not see fit
to jump in and provide a POSITIVE alternative to the taking of his business
where it was located, folks like us need to step in and do their jobs for
them!
We welcome legitimate businesses like his into Oak Cliff. He
has a proven track record, and we sure could use a
better mix of businesses than the ones we have now.
I say, "Come to Oak Cliff and be a BIGGER SUCCESS than you were next to Bryan Place"!
I'm not proud to say it, but we
are used to being mistreated by City Hall here in Oak Cliff.
So, we would provide comfort to someone
who, like us, has played by the rules and gotten screwed anyway!
As Ms. Culbreath says, "In
Houston or Atlanta, their mentality
would be Mr. Woodward was
here first and the new people
will just have to learn how to get along with HIM." They
(the new people) are still the "unproven factor"!
Ms. Culbreath astutely points out that Dallas will always
trail behind cities like Houston and Atlanta because our City Council
consistently acts like this. Neither of these
cities would have voted to close a thriving 80
year old business. Five years from now when Mr.
Woodard's old business site is still undeveloped and has brought in ZERO tax
dollars, maybe someone will be around to point out to our Council what an
egregious and COSTLY error they made!

Editor's Comments: Northwest Dallas has already put its bid in for Woodard's new home. The real unfairness of what has happened to Woodard -- thanks to Bryan Place dimwits -- is that it is not next to Bryan Place. It is East of them. Unfortunately, they have the time to be busy bodies, while the Woodard's were busy running a business, delivering a much needed service, providing good salaries to scores of employees and paying their taxes (property and sales). sb |
