3/3/08  City Owned Convention Center Hotel
Rad Field

It is absolute nonsense for the city council to consider building a city-owned Convention Center Hotel.

The City Of Dallas has demonstrated time and time again that it has no business knowledge in operating any type of facility.  City administrators do not understand how to maintain structures.  For instance, take Reunion Arena, the Cotton Bowl, Police Department sub-stations, parks, the Zoo, and on and on.

Useful lives of some facilities are drastically reduced due to minimal maintenance (after things break or fall apart).

Bond funds are voted upon and accepted.  Projects are constructed.  The next operation is then to watch the projects deteriorate with subsequent bond projects issued for renewed fix-up and repair.  That type of poor operation drives the public away from attending events downtown.

Sufficient maintenance funding and staffing are tossed to the wind.  Even the parking lot and facilities that the City has responsibility over are often poorly staffed.  On occasion, there are "money takers" at City parking lots (and Reunion Arena) who have no uniforms, take money for parking, but provide no receipts to place on the dash or place into the lot money boxes.  Wonder where that money goes?

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
