        4/21/10  Letter to Raquel Morales
            @ TDHCA, State of Texas
Darryl Baker

Hello, Ms. Morales.

There is a proposal being considered by the City of Dallas for creating more dense new low income housing in the Wynnewood section of Oak Cliff.

As a long time resident here, I can assure you that we have MORE THAN OUR SHARE of low income housing in Oak Cliff.  What we do not have is a balance that includes HIGH INCOME housing.  That market has consistently skipped over us, gone to the southern suburbs and taken with it the retail and job growth development that is sorely needed here.

If you have not seen this area in person, I would welcome you to do so.  I will be glad to take you on a personal tour of the immediate five mile area around this propose site to prove to you that the proposed low income housing is NOT NEEDED and would be a true detriment to our area.

Please let your bosses know that this proposal is a BAD IDEA and that most of the current residents here feel that we have reached our MAXIMUM saturation point of low end housing.  The more appropriate location for this type of development would be in the northern or southern suburbs with the entry level and low paying jobs that many lower income residents must commute to each day.  Placing their housing closer to their jobs is the logical and right thing to do.

Also, making Oak Cliff a "dumping ground" for low cost and subsidized housing is a wrong thing to do.  We have more than our fair share.  It is time that the surrounding communities did their part in absorbing this part of the population that they feel free to exploit but not help.

PLEASE feel free to contact me at any time.
