01/26/02  Letter to Rena Pederson @ The Dunning Managed News

Rena Pederson
Dallas Morning News
Editorial Board,

Rena:

It's hard to understand what your dog is in this hunt, but you have crossed the line of ever being considered fair again.

You have always claimed to support women, but push come to shove -- you are going with the money.

Laura has not been talking about Dunning's contributions to Hillary Clinton.  Everyone else has done that -- me, Jerry Bartos, John Leedom and other GOP leaders and only in response to big time Democrat contributor Dunning claiming he voted for Bush, which would be in direct conflict with all the money he has given to Daschle, the Clintons, Bill Bradley, et al.  As a matter of fact, at the Preston West Women's Republican Club (Dunning sent a surrogate), Laura talked about her votes on several issues involving waste of taxpayer money.  She talked about her and Donna's sole opposition to selling Downtown property worth millions for 1/7th of its value.  She never mentioned Hillary Clinton or Gore or partisan issues at all.

When someone attacks your home and your family, you do whatever you can in defense, including beat them over the head.

As a puppet for Our Downtown Betters, you have been party to the deterioration of Dallas as a city where anyone would want to work and live.  ODB puppets like you sit around and talk only with each other or your "approved list of community leaders" like Adelfa Callejo or Rene Martinez.  Aren't you embarrassed, just a little?

What you and Hank and the rest of the Editorial Board have done throughout this campaign is to make the DMN Editorial Page no longer relevant to anything important in Dallas.  And you wonder why your circulation is down?

My little newsletter, www.DallasArena.com, gets thousands of hits per month and I don't advertise or do anything to promote it.  The people who read my site are the community activists out there.  I have readers and contributors from all over the ethnic page and from every economic group.  We are the worker bees.  We are the community.  We are Dallas.

By the way, your cronies in the Park Cities and Plano and Addison are not Dallas residents, Dallas taxpayers or Dallas voters.  Your attacks on Laura Miller may play well with them, but she's the favorite among people who actually live and work in Dallas.  You might want to think about just how angry we are with your direct and indirect attacks on her.

Hope you are looking forward to your retirement.

Sharon Boyd

R Fenner:

This quote by Bryan Tracy adequately describes our mayoral candidates. We know Laura Miller is definitely action-oriented.

"One of the marks of superior people is that they are action-oriented.  One of the marks of average people is that they are talk-oriented."

James Terry:

Sunday, following the election, one of the TV stations at the Garcia announcement asked Dunning if he had given donations to Garcia.  Dunning said he had in the past and would probably do so in his state race. I have not heard this mentioned by anyone and thought it might be of use.

Great response to the Dallas News.  Keep it up. On to victory.

Do the DMN editors ever read their newspaper?
Today's front page has a story of a single mom struggling to raise a family on a modest income.  This was paired with a story about how so many working folks in Dallas have 2 jobs and are dependent on charity to make ends meet.  So what does the editorial board worry themselves over? We don't have enough money to build a fancy bridge across the Trinity River.   Do these people ever get out of their ivory tower?   They could have funded one of those fancy bridges if they had not invested/wasted it on the "Cue Cat".

About your letter to Pederson, I have lived in Dallas for 50 years and have noticed the downtown business clique since I was a Senior in high school and a civics teacher taught us about the Dallas political infrastructure.  He predicted we would be a one paper town and what that would mean.  Boy was he right.

Journalism has disappeared, along with objectivity.  They moved Doonesbury to the "editorial" page because of its content.  Yet, they will not do so for their own editorialized journalism.  We are an Oligarchy.  Your letter to Rena Pederson...I would not expect a response and will be surprised if  you get one, especially in writing.

Citizen D:
You go girl!  Just wish we didn't HAVE TO be the loyal opposition!

Did you see On the Record today?  Sam Baker talked about the arena boys wanting more taxpayer money and had some panelists debating the pros and cons of it.  That was a good thing.

Our City Council is NOT discussing this and they are not telling the voters about it.  That is a BAD THING.

Will they ever get it?

Donna Brenner:
Sharon, I haven't met you in person, nor have I met Laura.  I have, however, been a fan of hers since the Observer days.  I love what she stands for, which is why I have dug in my heels and am giving so much time talking to people, hitting the road with signs -- before I was given an assignment to do so.

I told Laura I was "one of her many street warriors" since she decided to run for Mayor.

I have lived in Dallas for 39 years.  It never fails the money gets the positions, and I am sick of it!

My city council rep. has already heard from me on her lack of knowing the truth.  I am ticked off at those council members who went for Dunning. It is so clear what is going here and it is just like it has always been.  The ONLY FRESH AIR is Laura -- not the same ole same ole.

Tell Laura she is doing one hell of a job.  Her taking the high road makes me even more proud of her. I don't know how she has held her composure with these rats.

Had Laura not run, I would have voted for Garcia ... anyone but "pawns like Kirk or Dunning."  I vote but have never until now gotten involved with any Dallas political campaign.

Laura is exactly what we need in Dallas.  I want her to keep on going to the next step.  I

Thank you for sending me your letter to Rena, think I will send her one of myself.  I look forward to meeting you in the near future.  You are my kind of girl, just like Ms. Laura. Give her my love and tell her not to get to stressed out with these puppets.

Frank Stitch:

Give her hell Sharon.  You know how I feel about Ms Pederson's total lack of integrity.

Jim D:

Come on, Sharon. The DMN hates Laura. That's a fact of life. Let's use it.

Newspapers are supposed to provide objective oversight of our political system. With the way the DMN has soft-peddled Dunning's shortcomings and close knit ties with those who benefit from the City's largess at the expense of taxpayers, what chance do we voters have for objective and comprehensive reporting of the activities at City Hall if Dunning gets elected.  If Laura Miller gets elected, the DMN can be counted on to  watch over every move of the head of our city...for the first time since the DMN ran the DTH out of business.

Ward politics is the Devil's key to the soul of the city council.  It is how some council members got themselves in trouble in the past.  It is the bait that will get others in trouble in the future. 4/6/8
